Ain't much use in running magnums subsonic anyways.

Yeah, I just thought it would be cool if I could get the length of .38 special down to around 9mm. Could almost double capacity and be pretty quiet. Figure 9mm load data would be close.

I considered that. Hope to compare them to .38 special at Hville if Orbitup finds some ammo.

.38 S&W has a slightly larger case diameter.

    .379 for special

    .386 for S&W

.380 has a case diameter of .374, probably close enough to accomplish the resizing process, neck expansion, and crimp with .380 dies adjusted higher to a ~9mm length.

I got a set of .380 dies, just need to order a lockstud for .38 and length gauge for 9mm and I can do some experimenting.

    I'm a little giddy now.

Thanks. It's a 1904 rifle, 24" barrel. Still loads, feeds, fires & ejects like it's supposed to.

My 73 was built in 1886 shoots 38/40 which I use this gun and reload for it each month at my Cowboy Action Shooting club. It is nice to see that kind of quality that continues to work after 129 years.

The 38 WCF is lots easier to find bullets for reloading (.401). I was torn between 38 WCF and 44 WCF and settled on the 44.

.427 is smaller than the .429 of the common 44 cal in modern arms. I size em down when I need to.

I keep my eyes open for model 73, 92 and 94.

special editions or commemorative pieces Maybe really worth something in 100 yrs, maybe not. Typically noting more than current production with embellishments.

A guy in my CAS Club casts lead bullets for these calibers so I buy them from him.

Hate to HiJack but what is your load for that? I have a Lightning that I think was made around 1894, and am trying to figure out if I want to use a BP load or smokeless.
