Many thanks to Fortyfiveautomatic for putting this up for sale and his patience and willingness to meet me in San Marcos. I finally got a Kimber 1911 .22 conversion kit, best part is it came with a threaded barrel :D really excited about this, next best thing to a new gun. Range report to follow soon, hopefully this weekend.

Very nice. Now you've gotta get a can.

That's still a ways off and a lot of homework to do, would there be any good suppressor that I'd be able to use with my AR's (5.56/2.23) and this setup? That would be ideal and I'm open to ideas. I have heard of guys getting 30 cal cans that will also work with .223 (ie: could be used with 7.62, .308, 6.8, 2.23, etc) only experience with suppressors were the Knights Armament and Surefire ones we had in our inventory for our sniper teams.

Very nice pistol. Check out the Specter II I think it's the best 22 can out there from what I can tell. I plan to get one. Here's the thing though, most of the 556 and 30 cal cans cannot be taken apart for cleaning. That's really important for .22 cans because they tend lead up quickly. You gotta get the lead out, so to speak, so stainless baffles that protect the inside walls of the aluminum tube and can be taken out to clean are a really good thing. A sealed can, not so much.

Here is a thread from another board discussing this.....

Very nice... if you get a suppressor consider it's outside diameter vs. the height of your front sight. A "big fat can" may require a new TALL sight.

    Rentz,
My Kimber rimfires have been reliable, accurate and a whole lot of fun!

Thanks guys my birthday is on Thursday and this was my early present to myself (and a new pair of Leupold binoculars ), I appreciate the links for the suppressors but as I said that will be farther down the line unfortunately, can't justify the purchase anytime soon. I picked up four different brands of .22 ammo today so I can test it and see what it likes best and/or doesn't like at all, looking forward to trying it out.

9X19 those are great looking firearms, wasn't even aware that they had it in .17 though I'm not surprised, guess that's one more thing to add to the ever growing bucket list that's already longer than the one santa has for whose naughty and nice, looks like I'm gonna have to be a good boy if I wanna make it a reality

    Update with range report!

General consensus is.......I only lightly scratched my shooting itch today as this range trip was way too short. However I was able to test 4 different types of ammo through the .22 conversion, it did not like the Federal or American Eagle very much but did like the Blazer and loved the CCI Stingers.

Got to try out a new (to me) range (Bass Pro Shop's indoor range) which isn't too bad but the time limit (30 minutes) is way to short added on top of the fact that you have to schedule an appt to use it. However I did get to shoot in the AC and try out my new toy, plus the wife tagged along and had fun shooting with me so that's all that mattered at the end of the day.

I did however walk away with another .22 conversion kit, this time for my AR so I will need to test this one next. Today was my b-day and my wife got me the CMMG .22 AR conversion kit and a soft case for one of my pistols.

Can't wait to try this one out, I guess the rimfire conversion bug got me, next step is a dedicated rimfire (thinking .17).
