I have had this MagnetoSpeed V3 for over a year. I used it a few times and put it up for almost a year. Got it out yesterday to chrono a few rifles. It was as easy to set up and use as It was a year ago.

I'm amazed at the ease of use and the ability to collect velocity data almost anywhere, anytime.

I kept notes on the spacer set up from last year. I used the same spacers and checked alignment with the rod. Alignment was confirmed, I was shooting and collecting data.

I forgot a spare battery. When I started reading the instructions I learned that I could substitute cr123 batteries. I have several packs of those to power my flashlight and thermal weapon sight. Luckily, I did not have to resort to that as the original battery was still good.

A few minutes with the instructions, a few minutes of set up and I was gathering data.

Anyone else have experience with a magnetospeed V3?

    What about LabRadar?

I have a Magnetospeed and love it. My favorite part is having a spreadsheet that I can add comments to and save on my computer.

BTW the alignment rod is supposed to be placed on the bayonet to get the proper spacing between it and the outer edge of the bullet.

Can you use it to check load development for accuracy or does it affect accuracy? I care more about knowing velocity AND accuracy at the same time.

You are correct. Forgot that. I was using it incorrectly

The Magneto will change the POI slightly and is a little more difficult to setup compared to a Labradar. When you get the Labradar setup, its a lot easier to get readings from multiple firearms. It also has bluetooth built in but not active at this time. They are suppose to have an App in early 2018. I run my Labradar off a cell phone battery backup instead of AA batteries. You can download the results with the removable SD card. They are on sale for $499 at Midway and some other places. Price is the only negative for the Labradar. I've seen the the Magneto V3 on sale for around $330.

I am still not buying that Labrador is easier to set up.

I just keep notes on the combinations of spacers for each gun. Makes it very easy to switch from one gun to another. It's really easy when you're running it on a suppressor in the suppressors are all the same diameter

Unpack it from the case, attach the Labradar to the base (like a camera on a tripod), plug-in the battery backup to the Labradar with a USB cable then turn on the unit. Probably takes a minute. The hardest part is knowing where to position the unit next to the firearm (ie: how close to the firearm and whether forward or back of the muzzle) and what sensitivity to set on the Labradar. It's that simple.

Do you place it in different locations for different firearms?

Different sensitivities for different guns too?

Any issues with it picking up different guns that are near you?

I've used the Magnetospeed chrono for several years. The only complaint that I have with it is they could've came up with an easier way to change out the spacers.
Instead of having to keep up with all the different sized tiny screws, they could've made the spacers snap together like Lego blocks.

For my ARs most have muzzle breaks which are loud enough for the unit to be triggered. Depending on the rifle, some need to be moved closer to trigger the unit. I've read where some firearms like .22 might not trigger the unit. The sensitivity is set to keep the unit from being triggered by other shooters near you. There are 5 levels. You start at level 1 then move to level 2 if another firearm near you triggers the unit. I've got mine set for level 2. Once you get it set at a particular range you usually won't need to change it.

Actually it is. Once you get it positioned, it's basically setup for testing a particular rifle or pistol. You'll remember where you position the unit when you use the firearm the next time. It's similar to the Magneto since you need to remember which fitting is used for a particular rifle. You also don't always need to adjust the position when switching from one rifle to another rifle. You also don't change the Sensitivity each time either. I leave mine at Level 2. With that said, I may need to move up to Level 3 at some point if a guy decides to sit next to me with .338 Lapua. With Sensitivity, as you go up on the scale, it reduces the triggering range so the unit isn't activated by another person's shots.

I have read where some people complain it's hard to aim the unit. I've not had a problem, but I followed suggestions for taping a cut down straw on top of the unit where the sight is located. I guess that is needed since the Labradar's radar beam is narrowly focused and needs to be aimed at the target.

I took mine (LabRadar) out of the box turned it on and positioned it appx 12" to the side of the muzzle and even with. That was over a month ago and the only failures have been my fault. It registered 38 out of 40 shots yesterday. The other 2 I forgot to arm it after a break, my fault. Shooting 6.5CM, no brake.
