A little too close for comfort.

Haven't been there in decades. Had no idea it gators had begun making a home there.

I read recently one was photographed in Ohio(?). Somewhere way out of the norm.

I suspect that big ole boy lived in Alligator Branch (arrow) or any number of other small waterways which are now unproductive due to the drought.

Oh man I just saw a gator at Eisenhower park near Summerwood, TX. Of course no kids were swimming but lots of fishermen in the area.

Why is the Alligator still alive when it is a obvious threat to people?

Folks should be allowed to kill them - like Hogs.
Well, no. Not like an invasive destructive species.

You can hunt them, and if one is a threat to people, pets, livestock you can kill them in self defense. Not too many folks carry at the beach and even fewer while swimming.

I’ll bet a good Mexican breakfast that that alligator has been fed by people for years and has lost its natural wariness of us.

If you don’t feed wildlife, it does normal wildlife things when it sees people. You know, avoids us like we would put them on the menu.

I wonder if anyone has done studies on the effectiveness of common CCW calibers on gators....
When hunting them, a .22 lr or .22 mag are the most common calibers.
Brain shot is about the only way to kill larger crocodilians. Their bodies are designed to take a massive amount of damage before dying.

In other words, aim for the bump between the eyes, or if you are grabbed, put the bangy part on top of the bitey part and let er rip.

I'm sure the American alligators are not unlike a Nile crocodile in having a golf ball size brain. Even if sunning themselves on land you go for the anchoring shot of the brain, as they are going into the water.

Our tradition is a .22LR through the eye socket.
