12ga is just perfect if you choose to use the MiniShells. 20ga if you don't.I think a 20 ga. would be my first choice, based on what the gun was made for.
Other than more guns are better so get both why would you chose a 20 over a 12 for home protection ?
Don't give me the recoil excuse the 12 ga is not bad unless you are frail. The only reason I could see might be over penetration of walls and I have no clue how a 12 and 20 compare in that regard.
I dont think it would matter, unless you are using some loads heavier then bird-shot.
My grandpa had an old one shot, break-action .410 and I have never understood why that was ever invented.
Might be good for killing rats in a barn maybe, but for hunting, even doves? No way!
Only problem with a .410 is the cost of shells.
