I've been online since late 1993 and I've NEVER heard DD used in these terms...

WOW I am surprised to hear that. DD, DS, DH, DW, DSO even DSIL & DDIL - all so common in the places that I have chatted/posted - guessing we frequent a different style board. I know that in 1999 when I first hit the boards/chats, it was in frequent use at that time. Of course I think that females (as a rule) tend to talk about family things online a lot more than men do, so it may well be a gender issue. Also, they get numbered - ie: "DD1 is the one that may end up with the meet in San Antonio, but DD2 & I will head down w her". Here is an old link to chat lingo (last updated in 2003, but it is the one that I had marked)
Chat Slang and Acronyms used in chat rooms, IM, and email

Anyway, thanks for all the great suggestions. I am going to take some time tomorrow to start going through them and looking into the spots! Ya'll are great! Thanks so much!

Fess up, how many of you knuckledraggin idgitz checked that site out?

You're welcome to do some forensics on my system, I did NOT look. BTW: I'm very partial to DDs, in the manly vernacular

    its OK - STBY if a QT A/S/L U & U R OFing & wont GFGI!

My dad just learned to text, so don't worry about it. I keep suggesting to my dad that they put text/net slang on the Rx bottles so that the older folks can learn.

I do think some of the difference is that women used the net from the beginning to make communities (i village and a million others) and men watched porn and vids of guys doing Darwimisms. Y'all didn't need a language.

Absolutely no farking clue what that means and this caveman ain't gonna look it up!!!

and still don't most of the time. BooYaa

It is OK, I will translate for you: Sux to be you if some cutie age/sex/location (ie, wants your personal info - is interested in you) and you are old farting and won't go f-ing google it.

And you are totally right about the language thing. Sometimes I forget that!

Back on topic, how scary are ghost tours? I think it would be fun if it isn't overly frightening. I don't really want to end up with 2 freaked out tweens. I am more worried about gory details as opposed to ghostly spirits.

    Helotes!
I just know in the Jeep community, 'DD' stands for 'Daily Driver,' as compared to rigs that are just used for offroading...

To be fair, I am sure a lot of people don't know what FTF or FTE mean, and there's even two meanings for the former (Failure To Feed and Face-to-Face).

    Cheers! M2

Never been on the ghost tours there. But there was knocking on the bedside table at the Menger when I stayed there. That was pretty dang cool.

Sure, each community has it's own terms. But some are pretty general throughout most places. For the sake of the arguement I googled "What does DD mean on the internet" and the first page consensus was "Dear or Darling Daughter". I know it can be used for other stuff in other places and I admited that I should have screened for the group here. But like FSOT, BFF, IMHO, OMG some acronyms just seem to have invaded many peoples language without much thought - I admit to being one of those.

And as a side note I frequent one mostly women board where thesmilie is code for sex. But that is a specific spot. Although I have to admit when I see it used here I always think "wait, how is that hot?" until I remember that the rest of the world uses that one as something else. See, now you will never look at the popcorn guy the same, will you?

Is that because your system has developed a 'memory' of the types of things you search for?

That is VERY cool! I might try taking the daughters for a more local tour and see how that one goes. I think that the SA ones look very cool!

    This describes my week.

I knew I was opening a can of worms with the popcorn guy... Thanks for not disappointing me!

    Maybe...

And I will stop with the womanipulating. Wouldn't want to get your knuckles off the ground for you! We still need people to move heavy stuff and kill things. Carry on men! Honestly I would have avoided the term if it had dawned on me (I try to avoid netspeak here), but I just didn't catch it when I did it.

May I remind you that men have evolved in the procreation department too.

    <hey, I'm just playing GG. Don't take offense>

Not offended in the least. I am a West Texas woman - you gotta work WAY harder than that to offend me! Plus I wouldn't play with the boys if I couldn't handle them. (Go ahead, put it on your out of context thread).
