Offer came to me in an email.
Classic Firearms has the Beretta 81 and Bertta 81-BB on sale again. I wanted to buy one so bad. But, I still don't know if I could even rack the slide.
We need a measure for that. Like trigger pull (4 lbs, 9 lbs, or whatever). If we had some kind of measure for how hard it is to rack the slide, I would know if it would be worth ordering.
The only small 32 acp that we ever had in the store, I absolutely could not rack the slide. I believe it was a Savage 1907.
That's a relief. The Savage I couldn't even rack the slide after cocking the hammer. Not at all, period.Okay, own both and so may be able to help.
First, YUP, the Savage 1907 is a real bear to rack and there's a really simple explanation.
Take a look at the striker spring on a Savage 1907:

I have never seen a striker spring like that on any other handgun. It's heavier than what I had on my Mausers.
But no one has ever had or will ever have a light strike.
The Beretta 81 is hammer fired and so you always have the option to cock the hammer before racking the slide. If you do that it is easy peezy but even from the hammer down position it not at all like the Savage.
But then I don't know of any other handgun like the Savage.

Okay, I have a 5906 as well. The slide on the Beretta 81 is easier for me to rack than my 5906.That's a relief. The Savage I couldn't even rack the slide after cocking the hammer. Not at all, period.
My hands are weak, even for a woman. I can barely rack the slide on a Glock 42 (especially because the surface is a little slippery). I also can't rack the slide on a CZ (at least not the used one that I tried). There's not enough to hold onto on a CZ slide.
There's a S&W 5906 that I really like in the used section here. I can barely rack the slide. But, I can do it. I've been wanting it anyway. It calls to me. I guess I could take a rubber glove with me to the range just in case?
I've got to stop buying guns!
Really?! That's wonderful.Okay, I have a 5906 as well. The slide on the Beretta 81 is easier for me to rack than my 5906.
Yes, but it's also considerably smaller and easier to conceal.Nice, but a bit more expensive.
I know. Everyone that has a 32acp pistol should bring to the range for me to try!
A customer had a Beretta 81 transferred through us yesterday. I asked to see if I could rack the slide. I could. But, just barely. It was harder to rack than my 5906. The Beretta is smaller and harder to get a good grip.Okay, I have a 5906 as well. The slide on the Beretta 81 is easier for me to rack than my 5906.

I hate the slide bite from that little bastard. The one I shot cut the top of my hand like a razor blade. Cool pocket gun for little hands not fat boy hands.
