The, "tax," is a penalty that only applies to the free loaders who refuse to accept personal responsibility for obtaining their own health care insurance so the rest of us don't have to keep paying for them to get free health care...which you would think would get total support from the no welfare "personal responsibility" conservative side...just more rightist hypocrisy...the Dems move away from entitlement and try to make everybody pay their own way and the right screams bloody murder and tag it "Obamacare" because it did not come from the GOP...

For-profit health insurance does not work...and our current piss-poor health care system is the proof.

I don't have health insurance, but your sorry ass isn't paying for my health care.

Step off the high horse, buddy.

Good to hear that you agree that the law actually contains a fine, though. Now how about some due process?

You're also full of crap saying that we're only upset that this didn't come out of the GOP. Again, get off that high horse.

How about this? I refuse to comply with the minimum coverage and I refuse to pay the fine for not carrying it. How about we just skip to the part where you cheer on the guys with guns who come to punish me for it? Even better, how about you sack up and participate in that raid?

I've had time to collect my thoughts.

There are three branches of Government each with a check and balance. SCOTUS just ruled that congress has the power to tax(nothing new here). That power includes creating a tax as a penalty for not buying something.

Most importantly from here on out congress and our leaders cannot sell us a mandate saying it's not a tax.

Now, if we don't like this tax, the ball is in the people of the US to support and elect those in congress that would repeal that tax.

I think this is a good thing by kicking it back to the people to decide.

They're using the 16th Amendment (enacted in 1913 and the basis for our current income tax) to "validate" that:

The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several states, and without regard to any census of enumeration.

Enumeration meaning "without specification" which is how they chose to interpret this $95 you'll be charged the first year if you don't have health insurance. As it stands now, as written, in 2014 the initial levy will be just $95. By 2016, it is scheduled to increase to $695 or 2.5 percent of taxable income—up to a maximum of $2,085. This money will be removed from any income tax returns by the IRS if you don't have insurance and don't write a check for it.

Have a question about The Tax and the IRS.

I had heard/read somewhere along the the line that the IRS could collect The Tax but had no authority to come after you for it like they can for other taxes you don't pay.
If you are due a refund they can simply deduct it for the balance you are due.

What if you never get a refund and always owe ? With them not having the power to enforce this certain tax, what could they do ?

How does not having health insurance make someone a freeloader? I currently have health insurance through my employer, but when I was working contract work and self employed I didn't have it. When I went to the doc I paid out of my pocket. If there was something serious that I couldn't pay for up front, I negotiated a payment plan with the hospital. Yes it was expensive, but it would have actually cost me more a year to buy health insurance.

The people that do not have insurance and abuse the emergency room today cannot be stopped by levying a tax/fine against the people who do not abuse the system.

You cannot argue logic when the tax is "feel good."
The "feel goods" want to help the unfortunate with other people's money.

Why is healthcare even a political issue? Its simply not a function of government.

The only medical related issues the government should concern itself with is the care of its employees (military, congress, agencies, etc). Medi-X, Social Security and everything else are nothing but socialism. FDR himself admitted he borrowed from the socialists when trying to get those laws passed.

Communism fails every time. So does socialism. Its unsustainable. That is why we have a global economic collapse right now. Those that fear socialism dont realize that we're already there....and we're already failing.

We're like an alcoholic who cant stop drinking because it will kill him. We're up shit creek w/o a paddle.

I think they'll correct that in short order. They just had to structure it like that to get it pushed through. Now that it's established, they'll correct that. And look for the 'penalty' to get larger as well.

You know, it comes down to this. Law is force. Specifically, laws are violence. They operate on deadly force.

Anybody who argues for Obamacare is arguing for pointing a gun at everybody's head and screaming "Buy insurance, motherfucker! Buy it now!"

    What is wrong with people?

Well, basically it's human nature. There have always been liberals, and they have always wanted to hand out other peoples money.
We started down the road we are on shortly after beginning this nation. "They" didn't make much headway until FDR, and it has just simply gotten worse. To me, "their" agenda culminated with the SCOTUS ruling and that's why I view it as the "death knell" for this republic.

    Obama(doesn't)care for dummies:

For those of you who lack understanding, can't get a grasp on politics, or are blindly arguing FOR this U.S.A. assassin... Start with this thought.

There's a reason why the majority are passionately against it, and there's a reason why it IS and WILL BE, regardless.

Debating this has become redundant. Figure out why it IS the way it IS and then we can find a solution. The solution is the same for every other problem this nation faces because every problem is a critical step in a pre-determined direction. "Need I say more?"
