BAR's have a slow cyclic rate & are a bit heavy. All I remember when I shot on was the big grin I had afterwards. I don't remember recoil be crazy.

I equate BARs with M2s (ma duece, .50 cal) in that they are both heavy enough, the cyclic rate feels slow enough, and being on a pedestal or bipods all work together to make the recoil impulse feel dampened. Way more pleasant to shoot than most 30-30s or 308s, imho.

I would go with CH-47 Chinook. The tail rotor on a 53 would be too close to the boat I would think.

ETA: Found an article with video.

A -53 can helocast with the ramp in the water. Offloading more so than recovery as the tail rotor does become consequential.

The -53 originally had a 16 ft diameter tail rotor with 11 ft clearance between the tail rotor disk and the ground. With the E models mods, the disk grew to 20 ft, canted left, and ground clearance reduced to 9 feet or so when level.

Never heard of such a thing.
We went with our M16s with a loaded 30 round mag and 3 more in reserve on our belt
We did not carry one in the chamber

We were receiving threats on the barracks during Desert Storm. To notmoffend the Germans, we had to pull guard duty with our mags locked up with the LT in the guard house and with fixed bayonets with the scabbards on.
