Opening weekend !!!

It's finally here boys...opening weekend for doves here in central Texas. A while back I made a post about how I thought it would be a great season. Turns out Texas Parks and wildlife agrees. I just read a short article where they talked about raising possession limits to 3X the daily bag limit and mentioned that it should be an exceptionally good season due to breeding, rainfall, etc. I've got my shotgun cleaned and my shells ready ! This year a buddy of mine was so kind as to let me invite a friend, so one lucky TGT member will be trying his luck with me. Hopefully he doesn't go claiming all the birds I hit but it's always more fun to hunt with a group of good friends. I'm sure we will let you guys know how it goes....good luck fellas.

Good to to hear the positive report. I made the five hour ride from Aggieland to San Angelo to participate in my little crew's tradition.
Previous few years have been abysmal on opening day.
Saw several 20-30 bird flicks between Copperas Cove and Richland Springs - then the lights kinda went out.
Hoping for a good Sunday hunt.
Will post stats and target availability.

Read an article last year that said due to the drought and lighter crops, many birds go through the city now for more available water and good sources.

I believe that - our neighborhood in Bryan is home to about 100 seasonal whitewing that come zipping through the trees to roost around 5:00.

The doves around here head to the city in droves the last week of August! I think they are a lot smarter that we give them credit.

Going for an afternoon hunt Sunday. Really looking forward to a good year. Land owner says there are tons of birds.. Yeah I heard that before,..lol Good luck to all and be safe.

Got my little set of envelopes from the FWS again. Looking forward to filling them up tomorrow. For some reason I get a kick out of putting body parts in the mail.

Lots of gunfire south of here today. Not at the sporting clays facility either.
I noted lots of birds at the farm yesterday morning.
Should be a good opening day around here. Ill try tomorrow, maybe.

Sounded like WWIII out here near Hondo, just N of 90 this morning.

I guess they figured out my wife doesn't want me shooting in our yard....

The cats aren't very happy about it either...

Odd! I've perched a stool on opening day for decades.
I'm setting in the suburban backyard that doves frequent.
A fliock of falcons came over about 1 hr ago.
Dove flying scared here like I have never seen on opening day.
