As far as I can remember, it was reported at the time that he offered to veto FOPA but the NRA told him to go ahead and sign it. In the eyes of the NRA, all the poison pill provisions the Dems had stuffed into the legislation were not outweighed by the good it was supposed to do.

Your broader point, though, remains valid. Reagan had a record of being way too squishy on 2A issues.

Sure sucks for those of us who are too young to have gotten in before the Hughes amendment

Have you seen the commercial that wants "whites" to explain to their children how privileged they are because they are white? I may have missed the point in the commercial because I refused to watch all of it. I know it pissed me off. Complaining about whites, don't forget whites built this country, even if some whites did have slaves.
