I have been involved since 1996, and NEVER heard that claim. it is certainly not provided for in 411 of the government code.

That was a statement made by Sgt. Holmes a few years back when an instructor posed the question about teaching deaf people or those who do not speak English. He said that, with enough notice, the state can provide assistance for special cases, because language barriers or handicaps shouldn't disqualify them. Like I said, I've never checked into the process, don't know if they really do it, or if it's just hot air. Don't really care.

Do we disqualify the deaf guy
I know of at least 2 deaf persons who took the CHL class, one in Kingsville and one in Corpus, interpreters were provided for the class (not the test I would imagine).

Kingsville class had an interpreter taking the class also, student also read lips very well apparently.
CC class I have no clue who provided the Terp or if it was a friend who did it for the student.

I haven't seen him in a long time. He's quite a character, but I always thought he was a nice guy. Used to see him all the time on North Beach, back in my karaoke show days. LOL
