With ~3k rounds through the P226 it's working as well if not better than when I first shot it.

After each trip to the range it gets a good clean with CLP & patches, however recently a ring has started to develop around the firing pin that just won't come off:

I could take a brass brush to it, but I'm a little reticent given where the firing pin is (not sure I want brass in there) unfortunately CLP & cotton swabs won't clear it.

    So, two questions.
    1) Should I try to clean it at some point? or is this just expected wear & tear?
    2) How can I get this off? Solvents, brushes, etc...

    Cheers,
    Steve

I've never worried about the ring much, I just scrub the breech face until the soot is gone, and put it back in the safe for next time.

I can't tell what you are talking about by the picture. Are you talking about the whole circle that is the size of the back of a round or is there another smaller ring that I can't make out?

Just a little brass from the cases. It's a non-issue.

Shoot and enjoy. It just means you actually shoot your gun.

Picked up some KleenBore lead away recently for cleaning another gun. Found myself wondering if it would take the ring off the 226 so thought I'd give it a go.

A couple of wipes and the ring is completely gone :)

nb. Apparently the lead away can damage bluing (it took the paint off my bore brush)
