There was a recent article in the Wall Street Journal reporting on school and workplace shootings. They found that in most shootings the shooter had an intimate knowledge of the facility, student at a school or workplace employee. The suggestion was that we are wasting time and effort teaching people a proper response to a shooting because the shooter knows what the response will be. Spend the same time and money in teaching security ( armed teachers or whatever) in handling the situation and taking down the shooter. I believe this shooter fits that category, he had the gun in his backpack, he knew the routine and he knew how to get into the school. We all know that we will never get rid of crazy and we all know that much of what the schools teach about safety is a facade. I still remember ducking under a desk as prevention of a nuclear bomb blast. Sure. The security features need to be done without the students knowledge of what they are. It seems like a very different mindset but when you think about it, it's reasonable.
