Some contradictions with that statement
1. If their company had recovered and is doing so well, why would they have to be picking people to lay off?
2. The fact is that statement above simply does not make sense if they were worried about picking and choosing which friends had to go, they would have removed themselves a year ago

They have removed themselves from positions that would require them to decide which of some of their best friends would no longer have a job.
I heard this was happening a few months ago and assumed it had already taken place. Source is a former coworker now at SiCo who I keep in touch with.
