Read an article this AM that summed it up well. This is more like New York or Massachusetts leaving because the US isn't socialist enough. Not in any way equivalent to Texas leaving.
hard to believe but I heard the same thing from my mrs, and she's interested in this topic. hard to believe the driving force is based on this side of the aisle. I too would be grateful if NY or CA left the union.

We are rushing towards socialism at a rate that is unprecedented by a free people. The problem is the 5 S's: Socialism sings such sweet songs. Indeed it does. 'Chicken in every pot', car in every driveway, everyone gets paid a 'fair livable wage', healthcare for all, schooling for all, no one goes hungry, everyone is equal, jobs for everyone. A one class society, no rich, no poor...Ahh the song is so sweet.

So if you ask the LibTards they all say in unison just tax and take it from the rich...OK, lets look at it:

If you took the worth of the Forbes 400 richest Americans ($2 Trillion bucks) it would only run our country about 7 months, then what do you do for money after that?

At some point government will confiscate property no other way to feed the welfare system. The old Soviet Union paid all workers including doctors same wage and they included a bottle of vodka on weekends so they could drink there troubles away and we see how well that worked out. No society can retain freedom without a middle class and we're losing that due to greed and a corrupt government.

but....but.....but hasn't ObaMao and WReid, and IPOlosi been telling us for years that all America's woes would be solved if the rich simply paid their "fair share" of taxes? What you're saying is that if we taxed the Rich at 100% it wouldn't make a dent in our debt and wouldn't even cover our annual budget? Have they been lying to America all along? For shame!

The real shame is that so many Americans are too stupid (including those who are voluntarily stupid) to make this realization.

Wonderful lesson, there, in how to take a complex subject and summarize it accurately in the minimum number of words.

There are shorter answers that fit on bumper stickers; unfortunately, they're mostly wrong.

I'm pro Scottish independence simply for the reason that the best any centralized government can hope to be is sub-par. Localized governments are more successful, even the socialist utopia ones the Scots want to emulate (they want to be like Sweden or Norway). I think Scotland would be screwed if they actually seceded, tho. No way do they have the infrastructure to support their socialist dream. Still, it would be good for them to figure that out on their own.

I'm slightly surprised, but not all that surprised, that UK isn't happy about them wanting to secede. I would think they would be happy if Scotland left. I also heard some parliament dude saying that their referendum to secede was un-democratic because only Scotland was voting on whether they should split off or not and not the whole of the UK. ...WTF  It's only the Scot's business if they stay or not. The hubris and elitism of that statement is silly.

I'm of mostly Scottish decent, and I'm very glad my ancestors left ;)

What do you mean "at some point"? Medicare and SS funds are already being confiscated from me every payday.

Even though they voted against it by a slim majority, I stood on the pro-independence side of the fence. though honestly it doesn't matter to me that much. Most of my family decent comes from either Ireland or Scotland (my paternal grandmother is from Ireland, though now a proud naturalized American), so I did take some minor interest in the matter.

I applaud them for taking a peaceful route through a vote, even though they looked to establish a more liberal government. TheDan stated, "'I'm pro Scottish independence simply for the reason that the best any centralized government can hope to be is sub-par." I couldn't agree more. As humans, each of us are extremely unique. What liberties and freedoms one region enjoys, usually aren't going to be the same as another region that is a great distance away.

I'm looking forward to how this continues to play out for them in the future. They were offered the chance to peacefully secede from the UK, yet turned it down. Imagine how different it would have been for the United States, if the British would have given them the same option a few hundred years ago. Considering not even 50% of the colonists even wanted to break ties from Brittan.

Scot Irish on my mother's side. But whats left is nothing like our ancestors that made this country.
I think they made the right decision to vote it down. Better for Scotland, UK, EU and the free world for that matter.

I'm of Scottish and Irish descent with, I'm embarrassed to admit, a little English mixed in. I would have voted no due to the economic impact. Maybe later if/when Scotland becomes more economically independent...
