Scotland relies heavily on their neighbo(u)rs to the south, and will so even more if they obtain "independence."

Been there...lived there...lots of friends there.

True, they have gas/oil deposits...but not enough to make them totally self-sufficient.

I wish them all the luck in the world.

From an emotional standpoint, seeing as how Scotland seriously got the shaft for hundreds of years (seriously, up until the second half of this century) after the Union of 1715 (when, technically, England became part of Scotland, not the other way around - the King of Scots became King of England), I lean toward independence for Scotland. They've wanted to be separate from England since the 12th century, after all and the Act of Union was enacted fraudulently.

From a real-world standpoint, I think independence may turn out to be a very bad thing for Scotland economically as well as from a foreign policy standpoint. I also worry about the sheer number of socialists that have backed the independence movement in recent years, and some of the policies they've tried to put forth. Scotland is in for a rough ride if they finally manage to cut England loose.

In theory I think it's a great thing to look for a little self determination. The reality unfortunately is that Scottland is controlled by the hard left Torries. They are worse than our Dems in alot of ways. Scottland also receives alot more tax dollars than they contribute so their welfare programs will be underfunded causing major economic issues (as if welfare itself isn't bad enough). To top it all off the people calling for independence still want to jump right back into the EU beurocracy that already makes 9 out of 10 of their laws and regs. In reality the Scottland independence vote is all about keeping their masses distracted and satiated.

It may be good for them to figure out how to take care of themselves.

It'll be like the kid leaving home at 18 and the real world slapping em in the face a little. Gotta grow up and act like adults eventually.

Read an article this AM that summed it up well. This is more like New York or Massachusetts leaving because the US isn't socialist enough. Not in any way equivalent to Texas leaving.

You are right and the hard left has been selling all the so called benefits of independent living when in fact its a MAJOR LIE. If UK cuts them loose they will collapse and go into bankruptcy, which is exactly what the Left is wanting. This will give them a extreme left nation/state in West Europe to based their socialist agenda on and my guess is the Muslims will INVADE it giving them a foothold to do as they see fit. Nothing good can or will come out of this....with luck, it was defeated 55 to 44%.

The people made a choice. Now they live with it until they decide to make another change. Glad to see their system work.

Lots of things gotta change before Texas and our closest allied states could try something similar.
