I spent some time in SoCal in the late 80s, some time in NYC in the late 90s. Oddly, both places, a continent apart, seem to be inhabited by folks who truly believe they are smarter than any of the rest of us. And they don't mind telling you that either as their "paradise" crumbles around them.
