The likelihood that a shooting will be fatal is directly related to the caliber of the firearm used, according to a new study released Friday by Northeastern University and Duke University. The researchers conclude that in their sample of 367 shooting cases in Boston during a five-year period, there would have been nearly 40 percent fewer deaths if only low-caliber weapons had been used.

The antis are spinning it as proof the statement "guns dont kill people, people kill people" is wrong. And that guns do kill people.

I know, you have to work at being as stupid as needed to make that sound relevant. The whole personal responsibility thing is way beyond comprehension to the mental detective libtards.

Just say they got you and move on.

Mental note: when reading this crap look at the last paragraph first.

They can study whatever they want but when the answer is always more gun control nothing they test really matters.

Going by their little charts, 87.6% of gun deaths are gang, robbery, and drug related. In other words, taking guns away from law abiding citizens wouldn't do much to reduce the gun related deaths.

Another charts shows the percentage of deaths by caliber group, but does not show the number of times any particular caliber was used. One might look at the chart and conclude medium calibers are more deadly than large calibers.

Their thinking and logic are totally skewed (screwed) up.

Well obviously besides the narrative of "if you leave out gang, robbery, and drug related gun deaths, white males are the killingest", their conclusion that with increase in caliber the gun becomes sentient and has a will of its own is just as ridiculous.

Guess this puts the caliber wars to rest.
    Not so fast.
They didnt say anything about the caliber actually stopping you or your actions immediately, only that bigger holes probably bleed more or have a better chance of hitting stuff and eventually killing you.

Us self defense folk want you to stop now. We dont want to kill you or mame you just stop what you're doing. You dying after a few minutes or hours is irrelevant. That's not the intention of self defense.

I also wonder about their sample size and time frames cause there was a time not too long ago where it was said throughout history more people, numbers wise, were killed with 22 cal guns of some sort. Again meaningless as 22 cal guns are poor in terms of stopping ones actions immediately. They too seem to kill later.

Again remember this study is meaningless and as such Anti 2 A folk are spinning it to try to dispel the notion that inanimate objects dont do anything at all much less kill, rather it's the person using the tool that does the damage. A nother tool to limit your access to guns by showing that one is scarier than another.

If I remember correctly this study was pushed by folks who limited access to all guns but 22 cal, i.e. Mitt Romney and crew when he was Gov of MA.

Then again it clearly shows AR rifle in 223/556 must no be scary bad or dangerous anymore. Small hole small effect.

Regardless, if we let the caliber wars subside what are 100 million drunk gun people gonna argue about online Friday nights?

You have a point. That .22 is definitely going to immediately incapacitate someone better than a .44 mag or .45.
