That Ronald Reagan was the special guest star would've seemed to be the big deal on the Wagon Train episode "The Fort Pierce Story". But much more astounding is the fact that it was the only time in the history of western dramas that both John Doucette and Robert J. Wilke (recurring western guest actors) played good guys.

    Hog hunting on I35
In 1973, I was returning home to Waco on Friday afternoon after teaching in Austin all week. I was in the fast lane going fast, when the car in front of me locked 'em up for no apparent reason. I had to divert to the unpaved center median to avoid a wreck. Made a U to go back & see why the fool had done that. Back to the lockup spot, I look over to the northbound lane to witness a brand new '73 Camaro T-bone a 100# domestic hog standing in the highway. I make another U, confirm that the Camaro driver is uninjured (but his car was not), called the wreck in, & dragged the hog body out of the roadway. I'd acquired a 2'x2'x4' cardboard box that was 1/3 full of surplus paper towels while in Austin. I cut the hogs throat & pointed him downhill on the road shoulder to bleed a bit (really too dead to bleed), then filled the box with dead hog & went home & butchered him. Left my knife there on the shoulder.

A Boeing ETB-29A Superfortress flying with two Republic EF-84 fighters attached to its wingtips. This experiment was intended to increase the range of these early jet fighters.

Didn't one of the fighters attached flip over onto the wing, killing the pilot of the fighter and the entire crew of the bomber?

I've never read about that, but I wouldn't be surprised. The whole FICON idea was scrapped because try as they might (including trying with F-84s and experimental "midget" fighters like the XF-85 Goblin being docked in the bomb bays) they couldn't make the docking maneuvers happen on any kind of regular basis.

Luckily, about the same time aerial refueling came into its own.

XF-85 Goblin - oddly enough, I've read it was a fun little plane to fly...as long as you weren't trying to hook up with the docking cradle of a bomber.

Here's an attempt with an F-84 and a bomb bay docking arrangement under a B-36 Peacemaker:

Keeping the fighter stable while trying to hook onto that trapeze arrangement was damned near impossible. They quickly realized it would be absolutely impossible with a battle-damaged fighter.
