I wasn't impressed. Most of the dialogue was cliches, and the settings were all wrong. About the only character I liked so far was Deaf Smith...

Yeah ... I didn't realize it was a 20 mile ride from Gonzales to Ft. Davis
And it appears there is a Texas version of the Grand Canyon near Gonzales as well.

While not not accurate in the strictest sense, to those who don't know Texas history so well, it depicts the era in broad, general, hollywood terms.

    I give it

a lot of the filming was done in Mexico. It was the only place that old enough buildings and what not to fit the time.

it was cheaper to film in Mexico I bet. Anybody who has been to these areas knew immediately they didn't care enough to get that part even half right.

Remember, this wasn't made in Texas, for Texans, by Texans - you guys had all this in the 7th grade. Just enjoy the remake. Yes; Deaf Smith is the hero so far. I'll bet we kick some ass @ San Jacinto.

The title of the thread is "Texas Rising - I hope they get it right." They didn't, it's entertainment that is too far from being historically accurate which, in my book, makes it worthless fiction. Emily Morgan was not at the Alamo, Gonzales doesn't have any tall canyons (or canyons at all that I can remember), and their recreation of the Alamo itself is all screwed up (the "hump" that wasn't added until decades later is present, and the long barracks have arches that never existed). There are many more.

As stated, the History Channel did a halfway decent job on the Hatfields & McCoys miniseries and, as far as I know, kept true to the actual events for the most part. I'm not seeing that here, I see a production that pretty much decided to ignore the facts and simply produce something loosely based on what happened. I am sure those who don't know a lot about Texas history will enjoy it, but what concerns me is that they will view it as being historically accurate whereas it is not. The sad part is that the actual events are interesting enough, I don't know why they couldn't be bothered to do their homework and try to make the series a bit more factually based...

    yah beat me to it....

Tejas wouldn’t be Texas without the valuable aid and assistance of ‘Mexicans’ who lived in Texas during the years of revolution. Of the estimated 189 men who died in the Alamo, only six were actually born in Texas: Juan Abamillo, Juan A.Badillo, Carlos Espalier, Gregorio Esparza, Antonio Fuentes, and Andrés Nava. One of them (most likely Carols Espalier) fought and killed 25 Mexican soldiers with a Bowie knife – of those he killed, one held the rank of Colonel. Sergeant Manuel Flores served in the Texian Army and was at virtually all combat encounters: Battle of Gonzales, Seige of Bexar, Battle of the Alamo and Battle of San Jacinto – he continued to serve in the Texas militia during the years of the Republic and was promoted to the rank of Captain. Too many other Hispanics to mention have served in the Texas Rangers and in the Texas Congress (later, state legislature). There’s a reason Texas has honored so many “place names” after Hispanics (Seguin, Texas, Gonzales, Texas, Navarro county, and on & on…).

and with a better history summary...sadly me thinks it would be the progressive retards 'thinking' it would offend the messicans but you are spot on.

Many do not know the difference and the import of the term Texian, of which I prefer. Since my family has roots from Spain, via Mexico, Poland/German and native texan. Yet our son got the green eyes and the ladies....sigh well...good..on him though.....lol.....

If they sanitize this then it will only be another one of many I already refuse to watch anyways.......

Yep, they screwed it up. The acting isn't even any good.

In the show, the Mexican commander calls Colonel Fannin a "wetback that swam across the Sabine" to invade his country before he kills him. Is that an even remotely accurate quote?

Was born in Hereford, Tx in 1958 and never lived aoutside the Texas border.
My grandfather moved to the panhandle in the late 1800s with his family from Kentucky.
My Dad was born in and now rests in Plainview.
    I have Texas roots.

While the details of Texas Rising are all fouled up, the storyline remains true-ish.
That might not set well with the locals nor the scholars, but generally it paints a portrait of why Texans are who they are and what sets Texas apart from most other states.

Being Texans is really no different than an individual who was born and raised on the beaches of southern California or one of the burrows of New York.
Its about roots and respecting what happened before you.

So let Hollywood skew the facts in order to make a commoner learn something he might not otherwise have done.
I doubt everyone in California surfs and everyone in Brooklyn belongs to a mafia family.

I know Texas and that's all that really matters.

A friend and I watched the first three episodes the other day and through out we complained and commented on how the terrain/scenery was all wrong.

    Out here by the lake!
Yesterday after work I tried to watch the series as I recorded it. Needless to say It was erased & I watched a documentary about the Rolling Stones instead. I don't even regard anything the Stones have done past the late 70's as good.

Santa Anna and Sam Houston waving at each other and posturing cannon fire at San Jacinto was entertaining.

I don't remember reading about that in school.
