I was 3 miles outside of lampasas and the tread separated on the passenger side tire had 31,900 on it. In the process it blew out the parking lamp assembly and splash guard which pissed me off! I jacked that sucker up and threw that tire in the back and hauled ass home! So no farm trip this weekend. Tomorrow Im going to discount tire!

Going to have me a drink or 3~

Most won't tell ya, but you CAN insist that they pay for the damage done to your vehicle - and most of the time, they WILL pay for it if you're insistent enough!

Just curious, what make/model/size of tire?

Discount is pretty good about taking care of their customers.

Well it all went as well It could have. They paid for damages prorated the dead tire, my other front was 5 years old. So now with good tires all the way around Im good to go! Bought the husky combo tool bag at homer depot Im pleased. At the end of the day my bill was $170.

Sounds great and all, but I have one nagging question.

YOU ONLY DROVE 32,000 MILES IN 5 YEARS?!?!?

    ;) :D

I'm not sure how you do that in a big city like Round Rock.

When we lived in the big city, 25k a year was nothin. One month I did 10k. It sucked...

6 years old, that's your problem right there. The rubber between the tread and the belts degrades, and you never see it coming.

Yes sir, the dot numbers on tires will tell you the date they were made, Texas heat definitely degrades tires.

Obviously a moot question at this point, just wanted to remind others that a "new" tire at a shop can actually be many years old. I've seen motorcycle tires on a rack that were actually manufactured 10 years previously!

For those playing along at home, the date code is branded onto the tire at the end of the DOT code. It's a four digit code (unless your tire is so old that it was made before 00, in which case it's three digits and you REALLY need new tires). The first two are the week (01-52) and the second two are the year produced. 2508 would be week 25 of 2008.

The DOT code appears on both sides of the tire, but the date code is only on one of them. The DOT code that doesn't have the date will have a blank oval at the end.
