And Steiner Ranch.....who the $#@! uses Uber out there, those $#@!ers are all so rich they can afford chauffeurs ><

Edit: Wow, only two people even voted in Steiner...that's funny because they have 5 polling booths at the Randalls there....

Probably because 99.999% of the people don't care. If I were living in Travis County, I wouldn't have cared either.

Sorry, but your analysis is way off. Steiner ranch is not chauffeur-driven rich. Not by a long shot. But they do have cars and drive themselves where they need to go, as do most people in the suburbs.

But when people use the same reasoning in regards to gun rights, suddenly that's an issue...

"First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me."

    Except of course:
    1. The Second Amendment is in the Constitution with millions of supporters.
    2. You just quoted a paragraph about political persecution linking to...Uber not wanting to do background checks. Wow, ok. Talk about the epitomy of first world problems.

Uber never did say why they disagreed exactly. They just ran a hard push polling corporate campaign that was threatening. Never threaten Texans, even wussy California transplant Texans.

What I think this really shows is a failure of Uber and Lyft's models. It should be far less centralized than it is. They never should have tried to participate with government in the first place.

Actually, it's to highlight political apathy, but okay.

This. If all they provide is the app for independent contractors to find customers, why do they care what the independent contractors have to go through?

I've had a good time being an uber driver, hopefully since SA went through all this already, it will stay the same. I met a couple of retired NFL players this past weekend. But it is hurting the SA drivers bad, having the Austin folks own here.

Not sure I understand...Austin U/L drivers are driving 90 miles to then take fares in the SA area? How many are doing this? Can it really put a dent in the ridership in a city with about double the population? Dang.

We can tell a difference. We're spending more time at the airport. And one driver said he had only two riders in a three hour period. Although I don't see how that happened. I am experiencing the airport slowdown though. Friday night and Saturday night will be the big test.

Interesting...well, here's some more excitement from the middle of the state:

Even the ultra-liberal Austin Chronicle is bad mouthing Uber & Lyft:
    http://www.austinchronicle.com/news...port-how-uber-goobered-and-lyft-slipped-down/

"Pouty, whiny, spoiled-bratism is not nice coming from a 4-year-old – but it's grotesque when it comes from billion-dollar corporate elites like Uber and Lyft.

"The two for-hire car companies call their service "ridesharing," but these Internet-based brats are takers, not sharers, and the bulk of the fares they charge end up in the pockets of their hedge-fund owners. Still, they insist that they are new-economy, tech-driven geniuses that are above the fusty old local laws that other transportation companies follow. So Uber and Lyft have made it a corporate policy to throw hissy fits when cities – from Los Angeles to Atlanta, Houston to Port*land – have dared even to propose that they obey rules to protect customers and drivers.

"The latest tantrum from the California giants came in Austin, when the City Council adopted a few modest, perfectly reasonable rules. The petulant duo then used high-pressure tactics to force a special election to overturn the council's action. Being brats, they assumed that locals would flock to do whatever the popular service wanted.

"But they picked the wrong city. First, they ran a campaign of blatant lies, as though Austinites wouldn't question them. Then they shoved a sickening level of corporate cash into their campaign, apparently thinking that the sheer tonnage of mendacious ads would win the day for them. However, the slicks from California turned out to be über-goobers. Despite spending $9 million (more than the combined spending of all City Council candidates in the past decade), they went down, 56 to 44%.

"So Uber and Lyft have now left town in a huff – but who needs them? A new Texas-based upstart called Get Me, among others, has already moved in to fill the void with community spirit rather than pouty corporate arrogance, saying that it is happy to comply with sensible rules that the people want."

So you're surprised a liberal newspaper supported more government?
