Without total air superiority, and in an urban environment they will get smoked quickly, just like everything else.Russia's much-vaunted Terminator war vehicles deployed in Ukraine
Video shows the much-vaunted 'Terminator' armoured vehicles, which are designed to support infantry units fighting in urban areas, in the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine.www.dailymail.co.uk
This should be interesting. These are, by the way, still crewed.
Prime example of why air supremacy is so important. The Rus not having air cover to take out the Uke artillery is inexcusable from the top down....
....and good on the Uke artillery for a massively good show!

The underlying question is why is the Russian Air Force not supporting ground operations.
A lot of analysts have been pondering that question since very early in the war.
The curious case of Russia’s missing air force
Experts had expected the invaders to use their planes to pick off Ukraine’s forces at willwww.economist.com
I’m gonna go out on a limb, and without reading the article, guess they they don’t have the ability to perform proper SEAD/DEAD missions making so their airforce would fair about as well as their armored vehicles have in the cities.
That’s part of it, but Russia has been successful with air launched cruise missile attacks, so it doesn’t explain a lot, especially things like Su-34s carrying dumb bombs and frat incidents.
Ukraine is turning out to be a much different experience for them than Syria and other low intensity conflicts they’ve operated in.
Remember the scud missile hunts?Cruise missiles are probably not as useful for mobile SAM sites, depending on how much and how accurate their intelligence is.

For Ukraine?
If Ukraine could get their hands on a few dozen Tomahawks, where Russia is HQd, Bivuaced etc is pretty easy intel to get when operating among a hostile populace and has been targeted already.

The point is that Russia has successfully engaged targets with air launched cruise missiles, which implies an ability to negate enemy air defenses. Avoidance is sometimes the easiest way.
Even in those successful engagements, there’s still wonderment at why the warheads aren’t performing as they did elsewhere.
Ukraine: Russia’s air-launched cruise missiles coming up short
Russia’s war on Ukraine has exposed problems with Moscow’s long-range air-launched cruise missile inventory, with the weapons suffering from an unexpectedly high failure rate according to the United States.www.iiss.org
Either our past assessments were really wrong, our current assessments are really wrong, or we don’t understand what it is that Putin really wants.
Considering Renault just handed over something like a $9B investment in auto manufacturing for a ruble (about $0.11), McDonald’s is about to take a multi-billion dollar bath as it walks away from it’s operations, and the US treasury is set to let the sanctions carve out that lets Russia service it’s debt to US investors next week, it’s likely we will see A default their, too. That’s real monetary losses with real assets, modern technology, and IP the west is walking away from and Russia is getting for free.
If the Chinese can half-ass reverse engineer and produce shitty products they can dump on the world for stable currency incomes, Russia can probably do it, too. Makes me wonder if the real goal is force a reset to a first/second world era.
If you’ve hung on this long, one more thing to consider. Russia has done a lot of foreign military sales with formerly US aligned countries. I wonder how comfortable they are feeling in those investments now. Murphy’s law and all that.
