This is my first post. Just so everyone knows, I'm a legitimate, regular poster on my own state forum, NY Firearms - Home | New York Firearm & Gun Ownership, Laws, Politics, Weapons, Discussion Forums.

Here's a link for my user profile there: NY Firearms

Title of the post is self-explanatory. Anyone know a good place to start looking for creative-director/advertising/UX-UI design positions?

Almost everyone I know is drinking the Kool-Aid and I want outta here. I'm effectively a criminal now if I don't sell all my guns and magazines out of state of turn them in to be destroyed with no compensation. I also have been waiting for 9 months for my handgun permit and still have another 3-5 months of waiting to go. After all this crap, I may lose my down payments on two handguns I've been wanting for a long time... and you can bet your ass the state won't compensate me for that.

I've always been more conservative and liberty-minded anyways... and Texas is one of the places I seem to belong more than this non-American socialist state NY has turned into. And the more history I read, the more I want to go back to the ideas of Liberty and Freedom and REAL Justice (not fearfully, unconstitutionally imposed infringements)... and the more I realize how out-of-whack and far-removed this damned state is from the original idea our founding fathers established.

Any help, advice, support or an AMEN! appreciated.

Multimedia Games is always hiring designers I believe. I have an acquaintance who works there, he likes it. There are lot's of tech places in Austin, I see UI/UX jobs posted quite often on Craigslist; you just have to sift through the spam posts.

Welcome to the forum Rob! I really hate reading about what is happening to you guys up there.

Thanks! I've been eyeing Texas for a long time. Need to get outta here and explore. Not before this weekend's march on the capitol building in Albany though! ;) Wish me a mace-free experience!

I would try the big energy companies like El Paso, Schlumberger, and BP.

There are a lot of financial service companies and accounting firms like KPMG. There's HP too.

Halliburton might also have a few openings. The company I'm with now is expanding but I think we hired 2 or 3 new sales people recently. We need software developers ATM.

That's just in Houston. I'm sure there's plenty more in the rest. HP and Dell and IBM have offices in Austin. TX is doing decently well in the Obama depression thanks to Rick Perry, Greg Abbott, and the state legislators.

We don't get any pleasure seeing our liberty minded brothers hurtin' but we can't stop praising Texas! This is one of the last bastions of liberty in the US! There are several others of course, but many of them have brutal winters and I HATE winter!

Pick a member here based upon their post counts, arrange for shipment to our FFL and when you get here, buy the firearms back. I would do that for you (if I had the bucks- I'm retired) and I'd sell them back for our original price. Everything would be 100% legal and you'd get New York off of your ass.

I was born in Chicago and left for similar reasons that you are upset about. It took me a while but I ended up in Texas.

We knew this was coming. You never see movies entitled "Escape From Texas"....snicker.

    Hang in there!

Keep in mind when moving to Texas that salaries may appear a little lower but that is all made up for in cost of living, no income tax and quality of life.

However if people are bringing their liberal POV here just to keep some guns I recommend they stay put! We are a rowdy bunch that love ALL of our liberty that don't much like outsiders telling us how to live.

If anyone does leave their home state to come to TX I would love to see a letter sent to all of your state reps stating, "you all can go to hell, I'm going to Texas!"

Good luck, NY. I just escaped California last month and couldn't be happier with my decision to settle in Texas. Best of luck in Albany!

It's good to see someone with the conviction to pull up the stakes and move in order to gain back his freedom. Especially a yankee. :p

I hope you make it down here sooner than later. Lovers of freedom always welcome!

This is the reason that the founding fathers made the state governments more powerful than the federal government. If you don't like what your state is doing, you can move away and if they are stupid enough, noone will be left to be governed...

Everything is bigger in Texas. That goes for out current State Government. Governor Perry and most of our State politicians have come out against Obama and have declared Texas would not abide by any Federal Gun restrictions. I would recommend you sell or rent your house and and head west. I also recommend you stay away from Austin. It seems the city government is in bed with Obama, but the rest of our state is reasonable.

Houston seems to be going the way of Austin. Outside prospective, I don't live or travel there.
