Funny story figured I would share.

Last week I get a call at my desk from a guy whose daughter had just gotten an oil change at the local Wal-Mart. he told me she had a severe oil leak, and was having the car towed into the dealer. He brought me in a copy of the receipt from the oil change and the store managers phone number, since they were responsible for the charges.

    What the oil change cost:
45.87 with a Lucas additive for high mileage cars (Mazda 3 with 178,000 miles)

    What we found:
car had less then 2 quarts of oil in it
    oil all over the undercarriage
    oil all over the paint
    underneath:
    Stripped drain plug-leaking
Broken oil filter housing (vehicle uses a plastic filter cup, and a cartridge filter)

    We did:
Clean and degrease undercarriage to determine what caused the leak .5 hours at 98 an hour so $49.00
Replace broken oil filter housing 58.00 for the part .5 at 98.00 to install $107.00 total
R&R oil pan 258.97 for the part, 2.5 hours at 98 an hour $503.97 total
    Full service detail 79.99
    Re-do the oil change 32.17

    Grand total of $772.13

Dealer charge for an oil change 32.17 with tax and disposal Walmart $772.13

You should see them scramble at the vato zone when you ask for a radiator cap for an old vw bug.

took a Pontiac Fiero in there. Had a good laugh for, no joke, 20 min while they tried to find my engine.
    bwahahahaha, that is great!

I would never, ever take a car to walmart or even a jiffy lube. Those places tend to hire the lowest common denominator and it seems it's company policy to be in denial when they strip your drain plug (or worse).

Be a real man (or woman) and change your own oil. If you can field strip, clean, and lube a gun then you can change your oil. It's not hard. If for some weird reason it is too hard, find a decent independent mechanic. Might cost you $10 more than Jiffy Lube, but at least you'll have someone with experience working on your car.

If I don't do it myself I take my truck to the only place I've ever had my oil changed, they are good people who I trust. I bet those wallytards used an impact to put the drain plug back in.

I dont dare take my truck to WM for oil change..... its been over 15 yrs since I last took a vehicle.... they are too slow.... they just waste my time.... I prefer to change the oil myself...... I get the satisfaction of a job well done in a timely manner....
