I'll never put WD-40 anywhere near a firearm.
If you do, please, please, please, be sure to oil it up after you strip the firearm of all protective lubricants.
Depends on the nature of the "dirt"... In my cleaning arsenal I use:
- Water
- Simple Green/Purple Power
- Hoppes No. 9
- CLP
- Carb cleaner or non-chlorinated brake cleaner
- compressed air
A lot of times they don't really need a thorough cleaning. Just wipe off old lube with a clean rag and re-apply fresh lube.
Flitz polish in the bore is amazing. It removes carbon like nothing else.Use a bore snake or a brush. scub the bore good and follow up with a rinse of solvent to remove the left over polish. Try it on your nastiest barrel....... it also removes the carbon rings on stainless cylinders.
Guess it is not good to put in a throw-away line at the end of some posts, as it may not be seen as such.
"WD-40" works great for arthritis, gout, incontinence, impotence, indigestion, shingles, athlete's foot, hemorrhoids, dandruff, and sun burn, but should never be used on firearms or fishing tackle.
poop....wait wrong topic. Generally I just use some break free CLP but I grease my M1A however and that is a different story for a different kind of gun.
