what program reads .doc files???

    i am trying to figure out what program i need to read .doc files, adobe acrobat, word processor,notepad, all of them dont work,any help would be appreciated

    I'd highly recommend OpenOffice. It's free, it's not full of Microsoft bugs and security issues, and it just plain works so dang well.

    Open Office rules, definitely use that. Has basically all the functionality of MS Office, but is free and not a ripoff price like MS Office. lol

    word pad will also read it - although it hoses the format
    Microsoft has a word viewer that is free but you can not change the file
