what program reads .doc files???

i am trying to figure out what program i need to read .doc files, adobe acrobat, word processor,notepad, all of them dont work,any help would be appreciated

You can use MS Word prior to '07.

or for a free full user version of a office suite that is fully compatible with MS Office use open office;

I'd highly recommend OpenOffice. It's free, it's not full of Microsoft bugs and security issues, and it just plain works so dang well.

OpenOffice.org - The Free and Open Productivity Suite is a full office suite.
AbiWord is the home if abiword, a lightweight word processor.
Both are FREE!

Open Office rules, definitely use that. Has basically all the functionality of MS Office, but is free and not a ripoff price like MS Office. lol

word pad will also read it - although it hoses the format
Microsoft has a word viewer that is free but you can not change the file
