I was gonna point this out, but Axxe beat me to it!

Growing up for me, we did biscuits & gravy. Very rarely would we have SOS, which was made with white or wheat bread toast. Was raised by my Depression-baby grandparents. Grand dad was in the Army Air Corps when it became the Air Force. He wasn't a huge SOS fan, as he said he'd eaten enough in the service.

True SOS was also made with chipped beef, instead of ground.

I do love a good sausage gravy and biscuits, but there is just something about the flavor of SOS that I have never liked.

I think the traditional method for SOS was chipped beef, but It's probably one of those recipes that people put their own spin on it.

I dont THINK so. I'd say he's PROBABLY REFERRING to the thinly SLICED packaged in plastic RE-SEALABLE BAG (Buddig brand I seem to remember)
... and doesn't "PROPER" SOS also have PEAS in it?

I have made it with Buddig & liked it. The dry salted made me think about what was available during WWII. I made it once with Armour dried beef from a jar. To salty to eat. Never once had peas in my dads version.

Browned ground beef flour salt pepper milk on white bread toast.
