    I'm not doing it.

The old guys I knew who did it, did it for money. And they made good cash money. They transported the hogs to their pens & sold them dead or alive. Lots of asians from Dallas/Fort Worth bought them. They would sell the big boar hogs to guys who sold hunts.

Sounds like good business if you know a lot about the hogs.

I think I just won my first hunting rifle. $345 picked up from FFL. From what I googled it seems to be a good buy.

'Top of the hill, Kerr County!
That is really great. I would really appreciate more information about hunting spots and an experienced guide.

Yup I know hogs are pretty tough that is why I am thinking about carrying a .45 with me, just in case

If you're going to buy a handgun for hogs, I'd recommend a 10 mm, revolver or semi-auto. You can load it fierce or just "normal". I'd use the "fierce" for hogs! :green:

Not a whole lot to know about hogs. Getting the word out that you would be willing to set traps for free on landowners property is #1. Then the word of mouth gets you on others property. Building your own traps can save you money if you can weld. Having several traps aint cheap. You need a couple of trailers one for transporting the live hogs & one for moving traps. Their's where all hand built. You need enough land to have pig pens, they had 2 one @ both of their places.

Marketing your live hogs & finding buyers wasn't a problem for them as they had been doing it for years. The one old guy sold goat milk & fresh eggs too which also brought in buyers for the hogs.

Corn cost for baiting traps was about the biggest thing they bitches about. As they got older the asian buyers got on their nerves more & more. Seen hogs shot, stuck & loaded into the back of pick ups without being gutted for a 3 hour ride in down right hot weather. Seen another guy dress out 3 shoats & throw them in trash bags then into the trunk of a Honda for the trip too.

My wife would kill me if I buy another handgun. Yup I do want a 10mm but unfortunately I have to sell a few first.

I just ain't comfortable with a .45 for a big hog at close range.
Maybe I just ain't comfortable with a big hog at close range, period.

That said, that '06 shouldn't force you into close range.
    Good luck.

    Oh, don't buy Remington ammo.
Winchester or hornady made for hunting will serve you well.

Seen lots of big hogs go down with a well placed .22 short. I know a guy that only hunts them with a .22 short. Then again I've been out with guys running hog dogs that live catch them too.
I've seen a bunch go down with the .22short.
Not in the pasture. Not one on one in thick brush.
