For the future, you might want to get one of those OBDII bluetooth scanners that connects to your phone to tell you what's going on and you can reset the codes with it also.
I got mine for like $12 on Amazon and it works great.

Blue Driver is the only OBDII Bluetooth scanner I'd buy. The cheaper ones have been known to screw up vehicle computers. And I can reset codes, record live info, and find fixes for the codes with it. Plus, it's on sale today....

I think they're not supposed to reset your codes, at least that's what they told me.

If you had your own scanner, you could reset it.

Cheap little tool I have can read codes and clear them.

The oil change light in mine says MAINT REQ'D.
The light today was the check engine light.
Its good now I hope.

The MAINT REQ'D light in my tacoma comes on several hundred miles before an oil change is due. The owners manual will give instructions on resetting it.

OBDII scanners are cheap. I used to keep one in the console of my truck. Mine you had to plug in. Bluetooth has alwasy been a PITA for me.
Now I have a tuner in my truck and can check and clear codes with it.

I beleive that no gas cap thing was being tried as a standard to eliminate human error of the improperly installed cap accidiently releasing the dreaded vapors into the atmosphere and killing us all.
It must have been a failed experiment because My wifes new car has a cap.

Or just unhook the battery, if it throws the code again that’s not the problem.
