If Abbott wins, then the slow slide continues unabated. If Beto wins, we get an enemy that we can all unite against. If a third-party candidate wins, then who knows?

First of all, this is not how it has ever happened in any other state where the dems got a foothold. Sure, there was an enemy the conservatives could "unite against"...as they never win another governor's race and the left takes over their legislative and judicial branches. If Beto gets into the governor's mansion the leftists will flood in until they outnumber us. Then you can feel proud that you took your stand, I suppose.

And...we're all still waiting to hear who your magical third party candidate is. If you're going to hang your hopes on one, you should at least make sure he/she exists first. You'd think we'd have heard of them by now.

Made a list of reasons I should vote for or against Francis:

    Against -
    immigration
    border security
    abortion
busing of illegals out of state
    ban on assault rifles, magazines
    confiscation/forced buyback of guns
    energy policy
    taxes
2005-2011 El Paso City Council - accomplished nothing
    2013-2019 16th District Representative - accomplished nothing
owned by wealthy out of state liberals

    For -
    he is not Abbott

Other than this, beto is a mighty fine person!

No. War is politics executed thru armed conflict. This type of hyperbole is part of the problem; sportsball ain’t war and neither is an election.

Funny, when the left is actively trying to criminalize every normal thing we do in our lives up to and including (and especially) disagreeing with their policies, it feels an awful lot like they're at war with us. When they're actively opposing every Constitutional protection of our rights and trying to institute a totalitarian socialist state, that seems like war. They have managed to create a United States of America where political prisoners are held without counsel and without trial for years on end on charges like "parading without a permit" and misdemeanor trespassing - that feels to me like they're at war with us. They are dead set on ruining the lives of any and all American citizens who stand up to them.

We probably ought to consider fighting back. And taking our ball and going home because the candidate for governor isn't 100% up to our liking is not the way we'll win. It's the way we'll hand everything to them.

BTW, did you not notice the 'armed conflict' a little over a year ago? Or was it "mostly peaceful" enough to evade your attention?

Until you start shooting motherfuckers in the face when they don’t vote R, you’re not in a war.

Or, and let's try to imagine a way not to play into the left's hands when they're trying to paint us as terrorists already, we could fucking pull the rug out from under them when they try to install their poster boy as governor of Texas by voting for the guy he's running against. But hey, that must be crazy talk because Abbott isn't ideologically pure.

So we’re not at war then. There’s a large group of folks back in the spring that said “please hear us, we’re not kidding.”

Y’all didn’t listen and are now telling us what we believe is wrong and we should just trust you that things will change.

That’s a hearty fûck you to that group of folks. Don’t be upset when the do exactly what they said they would do.

I was part of that group. I did not vote for Abbott in the primary.

But it's not the primary now. And voting in any way that isn't directly opposed to the installation of Robert Francis O'Rourke as Governor of Texas is a hearty "**** you" to every conservative Texan who understands that a frothing-at-the-mouth leftist governor is not something we want in Texas. And that's exactly what you're telling us you'll do.

Democrats, "I don't need to think about it, I just pull the lever and vote all democrats"
Republicans, "I have ideals so I am going to abstain from voting for him (or her)"

This is why we have so many AOC type people in office. This is why we have Biden and Harris.

See, you think voting for hot wheels is the only way someone can directly oppose beto at the ballot box. That’s your problem, not mine. The only way beto can be supported at the ballot box is thru a vote for him.

Nobody’s told you or any other hot wheels supporters “do this or else”. That treatment is the true fûck you.

Wow. So having one less vote against him doesn't help him? One less democrat vote needed to counter a conservative vote doesn't play into his favor?

In what world does that math work? That's like saying a leaking boat won't sink as long as you don't poke any more holes in it, so there's no reason to patch the existing leaks that are sinking it.

And for the last time, I am not one of his supporters, goddammit. I simply see the political reality you refuse to comprehend.

    Your position, however, supports Beto.

I haven’t read all 28 pages of this thread. But has the name of any 3rd party candidate that would be better than beta or Abbott been mentioned by anyone yet?

I’m not in the “a vote for ___ is a vote for beta” camp, because beta voters will also say that “a vote for ___ is a vote for Abbott”. Come November, whoever gets the most votes will be governor. About the only positive thing that will come from Abbott losing is that Californians will decide against moving here, but they will be doing so because they believe texas is too liberal for them.

Voting for hot wheels directly supports him. I’m okay with that being your choice.

…I simply see the political reality you refuse to comprehend.
No. You see a different political reality than I do. The reality I see is that it needs to burn to the ground so we can start from fresh. If it takes collateral damage to get there, so be it.

I was never a fan of term limits until Perry demonstrated an incumbent R Governor in Texas means that person will effectively rule for life given the chance. Not only is hot wheels following that tradition, but since June of 2020, he’s literally unilaterally decreed he can do whatever he wants under GA-28. Add to it there is no way to recall a governor here, and he’s set to rule for life.

Call that whatever you want, that’s my line in the sand.
