Texting is more fun after I told my mother in law WTF meant
I once was giving a presentation to a group of executives and I went a little off script. I was showing them something that I expected to surprise them and I said "When you recover from the little pause that inevitably accompanies these whiskey tango foxtrot moments, you'll see that..."

It was odd to completely lose the crowd like that. Some people understood immediately. Some took a few seconds. Some needed it explained to them. The entire rhythm of the speech went completely to hell for at least 30 seconds.

    To All,

After my years in the USA, I tend to "think in" & write with "military acronyms" & sometime have to explain my comments to the "never serveds".
(GIs do understand me, of course.)

Well, hell, they are all made up!

    Charlie,

FYI, a large percentage of military (and SOME acronyms that were used by the railroads) acronyms were created for BREVITY & SPEED when "the fastest communication means" was by TELEGRAPH.
(Acronyms saved telegrapher's time "on the key". = High-speed "bugs" had NOT been invented yet.)

SOME other acronyms (for example: SNAFU) were "made up" for FUN by BORED telegraphers.

    yours, satx
