I was thinking more in line with a tomahawk's original purpose - as a weapon. Traditionally the blade has an eye for the wood handle, as the handle is considered expendable.

As a fighting tool, bones (even skulls) don’t usually generate a whole lot of impact shock, but one improvement made with the VTAC style ‘hawks is the pick end on the axe head. The pick is also good against glass to punch a hole, then rake around with the entire head and handle to create a larger opening.

I just tend to be old fashioned where things like this are concerned. I really like the modern designs, but if I were to make one (which hopefully is on the horizon) I don't think I'd do full tang unless someone requested it specifically.

Buckskinners are prone to have throwing hawks. Wood handles can be trimmed to suitable length. Traditional weapons and they are generally cheaper and tougher. I've seen folks pop off the head and use it as a handy food processing tool. I have a decades old Cold Steel hawk by the front door. We like these too...

edit: back in the 'old' days there was a 'nam' hawk with a spike on the back. It was generally ground off sometimes belatedly because it often injured the user in actual 'use'. just fyi...

Not a tomahawk, but I bought this Buck hunters hatchet earlier in the year and it gets taken with me more than I thought it would

That looks very similar to the Vietnam tomahawks that Cold Steel made.

I really like the Spiderco Warrior Hawk.

Balance is fantastic, and feels like an extension of your arm...

How could I have guessed that a Spyderco tomahawk would have a big ass hole in the blade.
