I was thinking more in line with a tomahawk's original purpose - as a weapon. Traditionally the blade has an eye for the wood handle, as the handle is considered expendable.
As a fighting tool, bones (even skulls) don’t usually generate a whole lot of impact shock, but one improvement made with the VTAC style ‘hawks is the pick end on the axe head. The pick is also good against glass to punch a hole, then rake around with the entire head and handle to create a larger opening.
