<>Thanks.
After some 20 years of carrying, both legally & extralegally, I let myself be convinced that it wasn’t necessary.
Then, one night leaving a South Houston Hospital where I had been called for a brain consult, I was assaulted by an armed violent criminal, who was just a few days out of Huntsville Prison. Luckily, b/c I was in training for a Marathon a few days later, I was able to escape.
Then next morning, ‘’Hook’’, an injured Special Forces Veteran & gunshop owner, was assaulted by same guy, same place. But Hook had a cocked BHP in his belt.
When the Judge learned of this; B G just went back to Prison for at least 20, no parole, via revoking all probation on original sentences.
The convenience store clerk later told me that the crook had a little circle in his forehead skin from where Hook had pressed the 9mm muzzle into his forehead while waiting for HPD.
Lesson was big & scary: The Python & 6’’ .22 back home were useless. Spoke w/ a couple HPD guys & another Judge; went to Hook’s for a J-frame & a PPKS.
Carried extralegally in H-town prohibited places for years; actually stopped several more assaults, but years later after CHL’s were issued.
This is one of those life lessons better experienced than told of. I subscribe to the old Texas saw: ‘’I’d rather visit the Judge than the Undertaker!’’
One never knows where or when something can happen. During 15 years in Houston & 20 in N.O. I called Cops twice & filed one police report. Here in this small semi-rural bayou-side town; I’ve filed 5 police reports in 5 years. Actually had to fire once at a bad dog which had bit me 3 times and was coming back for more. Our home has had two armed felon intruder incidents here.
Two of our Houston neighbors were butchered while waiting 21’’ for HPD to respond. My Med Student GD in Houston-Montrose had an armed burglar INSIDE her occupied apartment; 911 told her ‘’Sorry, we don’t have anyone available to go right now.’’
My old friend & Colleague ‘’William ‘’Pat’’ FitzPatrick MD was one of 3 kidnapped, tortured, & murdered in 1978 Houston; see: https://www.upi.com/Archives/1983/10/20/Texas/3897435470400/
A former schoolmate was bludgeoned to death by home invaders in a nearby small town.
Meanwhile, all the stupid firearms restrictions disarm ONLY the wrong people.
Everyone who has had an incident will tell you.
ANY gun is a lot better than NO gun.
Good Luck !
