After some 20 years of carrying, both legally & extralegally, I let myself be convinced that it wasn’t necessary.

Then, one night leaving a South Houston Hospital where I had been called for a brain consult, I was assaulted by an armed violent criminal, who was just a few days out of Huntsville Prison. Luckily, b/c I was in training for a Marathon a few days later, I was able to escape.

Then next morning, ‘’Hook’’, an injured Special Forces Veteran & gunshop owner, was assaulted by same guy, same place. But Hook had a cocked BHP in his belt.

When the Judge learned of this; B G just went back to Prison for at least 20, no parole, via revoking all probation on original sentences.

The convenience store clerk later told me that the crook had a little circle in his forehead skin from where Hook had pressed the 9mm muzzle into his forehead while waiting for HPD.

Lesson was big & scary: The Python & 6’’ .22 back home were useless. Spoke w/ a couple HPD guys & another Judge; went to Hook’s for a J-frame & a PPKS.

Carried extralegally in H-town prohibited places for years; actually stopped several more assaults, but years later after CHL’s were issued.

This is one of those life lessons better experienced than told of. I subscribe to the old Texas saw: ‘’I’d rather visit the Judge than the Undertaker!’’

One never knows where or when something can happen. During 15 years in Houston & 20 in N.O. I called Cops twice & filed one police report. Here in this small semi-rural bayou-side town; I’ve filed 5 police reports in 5 years. Actually had to fire once at a bad dog which had bit me 3 times and was coming back for more. Our home has had two armed felon intruder incidents here.

Two of our Houston neighbors were butchered while waiting 21’’ for HPD to respond. My Med Student GD in Houston-Montrose had an armed burglar INSIDE her occupied apartment; 911 told her ‘’Sorry, we don’t have anyone available to go right now.’’

My old friend & Colleague ‘’William ‘’Pat’’ FitzPatrick MD was one of 3 kidnapped, tortured, & murdered in 1978 Houston; see: https://www.upi.com/Archives/1983/10/20/Texas/3897435470400/

A former schoolmate was bludgeoned to death by home invaders in a nearby small town.

Meanwhile, all the stupid firearms restrictions disarm ONLY the wrong people.

Everyone who has had an incident will tell you.

ANY gun is a lot better than NO gun.

    Good Luck !

I don’t understand why I never bought the basic, plain-Jane CZ 75B. I love the classic and very “old school” pistols…. old 1911’s, Hi-Powers, Beretta 92’s, Makorov’s, Walthers.

    I need a CZ 75B.
    Yes, yes you do.

And a compact, and a Phantom, and an SP01.

When you get a CZ, get it Cajunized. Thank me later.

I’ve had Walther PPK’s & PPKS’s all my life and never coud hit anything with them.

    But they are good-looking classics and carry easily. . . . . . . .

Ian Fleming originally had James Bond carrying a .25ACP; but when they began making ‘’Bond Movies’’, the Directors feared that a .25 would sissify Bond.

Thank you for the history lesson. I traveled for a living for 40 years, wholesale distribution. Most of that time I had a pistol in car. Only had to produce a weapon 2 times in my life. Neither time did I have to fire a weapon, but the 2nd time the threat was serious enough I was prepared. Drew down and threat ended.

I know we do not live in normal times for the USA. I know who to blame for this chaos. I have a very nice 357 mag revolver but am contemplating something that is easier to conceal. I've never been impressed with 9mm stopping power and I do not spend much time away from home any more. I am currently researching the maximum bullet cycling weight on a couple of 9mm semiauto's. In urban setting I could load my 357 with 38+P loads and 158 gr XTP bullets, but it is a heavy gun and 5-1/2" barrel. Have nice holster made specifically for this gun, made in South Africa.

I am a little concerned about the border invasion and the Freedom Haters in DC engineering chaos to justify subjecting us all to despotism. So, I want to prepare as much as possible without becoming known as a nut case. There are some Fed groups who are already zeroed on those who shoot, hunt and reload. I get enough of their crap already.

    Good for you.

I began when we got CHL’s w/ a G21. Even though I was 6’2’’ & 240#, GLOCK was just too big. Went to Kimber UCDP .45ACP, it was too heavy for comfort. Went back to PPKS 9mmK, but felt it inadequate.

Now, mostly a G19 in a nice IWB holster.

If you must have a .45, try one of the Taurus PT-145 MP’s. It is .45, 10+1, same size as the G26, carries very nicely IWB.

One other thing: The ‘’Suspender Store’’ on-line was a GOD-send when I was fat; I still wear them almost daily even though not fat any more. As the experts say: You’ve got to ’’Dress around the gun.’’

A year or two ago, I thought I might be interested in the Beretta CX4 Storm carbine. The “want” or budget wasn’t strong enough to pull the trigger. The added mags just made the decision easier. The 92fs is kinda the same situation. But yet, it’s still on the list!!
I wouldn’t part with my CX4 Carbine. As far as I’m concerned, it’s the greatest gun trade I ever made.

Thank you. I'm not tall and not heavy, but I have enough belly to make belt sag when it is caring heavy weight. My 357 mag revolver is over 3 pounds. I love shooting it, best feel and trigger ever shot. Talked on phone to a gunsmith today, we grew up together, I was 2 years older. Had similar conversation as ours with him. I may go see him tomorrow. If I could get over the necessary stopping power issue with the 9mm, I might still go that way. I'll be 76 this month, it is a shame we are having such conversations. But I think it is necessary, even where I live, in small town.

Sounds like you need a better holster and belt, not necessarily a new platform you have trust issues with.

Adding back to the intended purpose of this thread, a Beretta over/under 12 Guage. Or an older Browning .

Not for ME to shoot but I would like one or more of the rifles that were in THE PATRIOT old movie with Mel Gibson.

British Brown Bess musket or ones like it.

    Old Lady Cate
Oooh - Blackpowder rifles are so much fun. I shoot one built in the 1800's, and with a .50 caliber ball, it's a tackdriver. Crazy what those things could do.

The belt is 1-1/2" wide 5/32' belt leather. It is not tooled, but is very sturdy. The holster is very heavy bull of buffalo hide, molded, fits perfect. Was made specifically for my pistol. The problem is with me, am relatively skinny, long torso, short legs, and soon to be 76. Don't have enough butt, have a little bit of belly. Earlier suggested suspenders might be a solution.

But thank you for the suggestion.

The pistol is an Uberti 1873 SASS Pro revolver. Very nice pistol. Could not be better workmanship. Beretta owns Uberti.

The belt's not a pistol belt, going by your description. There's "very sturdy", and then there's "designed and made not to sag, roll or droop". A modern pistol belt will tend to have a reinforced core that'll keep the shape no matter what. It'll also make carrying the pistol much more comfortable and keep it from dragging your jeans down. I sometimes carry a full size 1911 OWB and I'm not thin. My belt keeps the holster from sagging, otherwise I'd be dragging the pistol behind me around my ankles.

Thanks for suggestion. If the fix is that easy, I will find the real thing quickly. I have a much heavier military web belt that is wider to point it won't go through the Wrangler belt loops, would be on top of that. My wife me to wear Wranglers that are tight and lower waist. She is quite a bit younger than I am. Hee hee hee
