Worked OK for Kyle, at point blank range.
Killed JFK in Dallas from the back seat of the car following him.

Close-range work that could be accomplished as well with a .45ACP....*yawn*

Did the job just fine for Travis Haley in Najaf out to 800 yards

This seems as credible as Garand Thumb's science degree....

Only because this thread hasn't gone there yet...........

Hold my beer !

I can well recall back when the “smaller/faster” mania was on across Texas back in the 1950’s.

It was said that the .222 was “perfect” for Central Texas whitetail. It had just been a varmint round until then. In fact, it was hailed as replacement for the once common .30 Carbine for Texas deer hunters.

Then, b/c the newer recruits couldn’t actually hit anything using a rifle; the NATO geniuses decided that troops had to carry a lot more ammo and needed a lighter round; here came 5.56.

The parallels in Texas were re-relegation of the .222 to prairie dogs & coyotes, b/c just too many solidly-hit deer were waling off to die hidden.

But, soon the revived hopped-up .222, then re-christened “5.56” was the answer.

Some of this was the sudden availability of mil-spec ammo at good prices.

By the time of “Stoner” universality for our militaries; the sub-.243 Win rounds were quietly being replaced by old favorites; from 30-30, 30-06, .308, & .243 Win.

So, Yawn, I’m seeing reruns now. In 50 years, our Grandkids will be saying “What was a blackout” or a .30WSM, or a Grendel ? While hunting with their .243’s & .308’s.

I think Garand Thumb has a better science degree than Tony Fauchi.
