If you had to kill your best friend, would you choose to do so with a 22 caliber weapon?.., No, you would not.

The diameter is besides the point. The thread is asking which bullet is more effective. If your opinion is neither, thank you for your opinion carry on. I wasn’t born yesterday, obviously a larger cartridge will have more power

The diameter is exactly the point. The AR15 and 5.56mm caliber was designed to injure, not kill, soldiers.
The AR15 and 5.56mm caliber is not a deer hunting weapon.

    IMO - deer hunting with an AR15 is straight-up "you're a piece of SH!T."
Get yourself an appropriate caliber rifle, 270 at the very least.
I am lead to ask why?

Where does .223 fall short on a deer/hog? I cannot think of where you could shoot either with a 270, 308, 30.06 and have it die any sooner than if it was shot with a 223.

I‘be killed several deer with Barnes bullets. Kinda expensive bullets, but they all penetrated all the way.

All .223 bullets bounced off these guys and I had to use a .270

Just got invited by a friend to go deer hunting this Sunday. I only have my AR15 at my disposal where I’m at. I have three different bullets: green tip, 55grn soft points, and some copper hp (Nosler maybe? I forget)
Asking for a second opinion on which to use on a deer
My plan is to take a neck shot or a heart shot if close enough

I think the soft points or HPs are what I would use. Do you happen to know if the HPs are heavier than 55gr?

Either should work. I think id take the soft points if they are the same weight

and If its a doe, Id go the headshot route if you are able

My thoughts exactly. Neck shot if not a headshot. I’m sure a lung shot would work too but it’s lights out in the head or spine

I'd be inclined to go with another larger caliber rifle. Some states ban any rounds smaller than .243.

Get a lever action Marlin 30-30 when Ruger takes over manufacturing from Remlin.

I appreciate your opinion. I have two model 94’s back home. I’d gladly use them but I’m living in Lubbock temporarily and only have the AR with me
I normally hunt with my .30-06

In that case some companies make 75 gr match ammo. Black hills is one of them iirc. It’s heavy for caliber, but these projectiles stabilize well in barrels with a 1/7” twist vs 1/9”.

If you buy a case from brownells or PSA you get a volume discount and have the potential to kill a thousand deer. I’ve never hunted white tail in Texas though, so I don’t know what the season deer stamp limit is.

It’s 5 deer per year so 1,000 deer is 200 years
    See, 5.56 is efficient too!
I think I have some .223 hornady GMX loads back home. That’s an amazing round, it’s devastating on hogs and deer

    Or

“Tonight on the evening news, man with AR15 wipes out half the population of deer in Uvalde county in 2 days. Large surplus of jalapeño cheese venison sausage expected to hit the market.”
