Look up the gun laws in each state you'll be going though. Follow each and you'll have no problems. If you have Carry permit aka LTC check where it's valid.

Here is a quick look at their gun laws. Looks pretty risky. Also note that they have a 10 round limit on Magazines. In addition to that it would be almost impossible for you to legally carry or have in your vehicle there.

Here is the section that addresses vehicle carry.

Yes, with a NJ PCH with the appropriate stipulations only.

Without a legal purpose, no person may transport firearms in the State of New Jersey. Legal purposes include:

    • Taking a newly purchased firearm home from the dealer.
    • Taking a broken firearm to the gunsmith.
    • Traveling to and returning from a gun range.
    • Moving to a legal place to engage in hunting or trapping.
Without a NJ PCH, all firearms must be transported in a securely fastened case, unloaded, and separate from the ammunition. If transporting a gun in a car, it should not be accessible from the passenger compartment. If the gun must be carried in the passenger compartment, it MUST be in a locked container. It is illegal to carry a pistol or ammunition in the glovebox, even a locked one.

I'd be very careful about traveling through more stats the just New Jerksy. Illinois would be another state you better watch you ass in. They see out of state plate & if your have a nice ride they figure your muling dope. Large amounts of cash too.
That's the reason I don't plan on going anywhere outside the Texas border.
