Walton and Johnson (Houston morning radio) did a segment on Sweeny this morning (4/26, Tuesday) that summed up to this:

"We expect Texas to have stones/balls/eggs if NOWHERE else has them and the events in Sweeny make us think otherwise. Come on, Texas.....grow some balls!" W&J suggested that if the parents had applied a paddle to the ass end of the kid's pants, they would be overjoyed to stand for the Pledge to our Flag!

Folks are way too scared of being sued. Some things are worth getting sued for. For me though, the parents of the two knotheads should have busted their asses and it should never have come to a point of law. Further, if my son disrespected our flag and humiliated me as his father in that way, he could find a hippie commune to live in......pronto!

I have done a lot of things that I regretted and some foolish things, too. I've been very vocal about our wars since WW2 and feel that the folks in Washington DC are thieves and scoundrels but I've never disrespected my country or her flag. I thank God for the service of our military men and women and appreciate their sacrifices. The Stars and Stripes exemplify those sacrifices and represent the bravery and courage of all of our patriots in uniform or not. That flag is NOT just a colored rag flapping in the breeze!

Like I said, the issue is with the parents. My kids may have done it ONCE thinking they were funny, rebelious, cool, whatever. I can guarantee they would stand from then on.

I don't think they are idealistic enough to stand up for their rights, in fact, most kids don't even know their rights. This sounds more like an act of rebellion against the system (schools) than a transgression against the flag. If I was the teacher, I would ask them to stand, if they chose not to I would make them write an essay as to why they are not standing, and quote specific rights enumerated by the Constitution or Supreme Court rulings that support their reasons for not standing.

I would win ... only because I am a bigger smart-ass than these punk kids.

Agreed (system rebellion), and good idea on the essay!

And THAT right there is the basis of this blood bath thread. These kids don’t know what the crap they are talking about.

I think we as patriotic adults find it offensive, but are torn between freedom of speech and rooted respect for what we have been given.

I respect The Mayor for stating why he joined the Military. I have found that many join for those reasons alone (my friends and family included).

It isn’t like it was back when America legally declared and officially won our last official war (World War II). Then, even Hollywood was on board and wanted to help in the war effort.
Now look at where we are.

There is as much political, philosophical, and moral diversity in the military as there is in the Democratic National Convention.

Did it when I was in school, like others have said it was only out of rebellion though. I didn't understand (or care) at the time what it meant to be patriotic or any of that. I was being told to do something and I didn't want to do it, it could have been a homework assignment (which I also refused to do most of the time, and subsequently failed my classes for) I simply didn't want to do what I was told to do. Got sent to the office, lectured, etc. Ended up compromising, I'd stand but I wouldn't say the pledge. I finished school on that note.

Now I'm almost 23, and I have no qualms standing and saying the pledge. Proud to do it; because it's my decision. Someone isn't demanding it, and threatening me with consequences with the choice of not doing it. I also clap and holler vigorously any time there is a public showing of appreciation for anyone in the armed forces or a vet/retired, etc. I don't think anyone in my family has ever served that I know of, and I have not either; but I respect those who take that risk and choose to do it. In middle school/high school I was a completely different person.

Those two punks should have been sent outside if they cant honor the flag!!

Now day's we got punks bringing Mexican flags to school, wont stand for out flag, and pretty much disrespect everything American.
I say Throw the assholes out!

I had a SOB pull up on my property one time. Drove to the back of my shop yard where I have some K-5's parked. I knew what he wanted, wanted to ask about buying one of em. I was already pissed because Iwas going to have to walk to the back of the yard to say NO THEY AINT FOR SALE! As soon as I walked out the shop door I saw a Mexico Flag in his back window!! " NOT ON MY PROPERTY MF'r"!!! I got my 12 gauge out of my truck and wondered to the back where they were. I gave those two POS bastard the worst ass chewing they will ever get.
You dont show up around here bothering me, tresspassing on my property, displaying a POS mexico flag, and expect me to be nice about it!
I should have left some slug holes in his tailgate!

A week or so ago, I found out who did it. $6500 worth of damage.
My other one is getting all new running gear. " I kinda worn it out".

Five minutes ago, I heard on channel 13 that two HS students in Sweeny TX refused to stand as the pledge to our flag was given. The School Administration checked with their lawyers who advised them that show of disrespect was protected by law and they caved in. Now, students don't need to stand for the Pledge to the Flag.

I'm sorry, this really got my goat. My eyes tear up when you guys tell about friends or family or even yourselves who paid a price for service to our country. I have stories of my own and recognize names on the "Wall" from Viet Nam. Now, the little bastards can disrespect those sacrifices as symbolized by the Stars and Stripes if they wish.

As a retired teacher, I often say that school Administrators do what is best for themselves and what makes their job easier. In doing that, they fail to do what is RIGHT and PROPER for kids and our communities. My stand would be "Fine .....sue us but you'll need to do just that. The boys will stand during the pledge or you can send them to another school. WE respect our nation's flag here!"

Worse yet, the parents of the two boys have let us all down. If my kid pulled a stunt like that, he would see first "HAND" how I feel about it. After the initial butt busting, I'd give two choices. 1) Stand and show proper respect for our flag or 2) Know what it's like to have your life become a living Hell!

That's the trouble with kids. They are so protected that they aren't afraid of anything. I feel that a certain amount of fear about consequences is normal and acceptable.

    Damn it, I'm pissed!

When I was in HS that would have gotten you bent over the principal's desk and strong pressure applied to the seat of your learning.

I know I pissed off some of you about where my patriotic roots are. I do my job and I do it well. I was only going to do 4 years when I started and now Im on 13. i worked oil fields before comeing in and that is still by far the hardest job I have ever done. I made my point cause so many jumped on the side of the kids where wrong and that one post stated they should cut there throats. That to me is not America so I guess I am patriotic cause I believe tha every man woman and child have rights and I am here to keep it that way. However i am TEXAN 1st and American 2nd.
