Thinking of whittling my herd down to three calibers only for simplification of supplies and being able to buy my ammo in bulk (handguns only). What three calibers would you keep if you were going to limit your stash?
That's pretty close to what I'm thinking. Probably not giving up my 1911 or my Glock 17L and a .357 / .38 carry is a good thing.
Also - I should have said that I'm keeping my .22 Rugers, but I'm not really considering that a caliber in this quest since they are small, fun and ammo is dirt cheap.
9mm, .40sw, and .45acp. They are the 3 most common, also 2 of which are the most common in LE/Mil communities, meaning the ammo is going to continue to be widely available. .45acp is excessively expensive for what it is, and really shouldn't cost hardly anymore than .40sw, but at some places it is 50% more.
Have to agree with you, this covers everything. 22. plinker protection, hunting, game, 357 game, defense, 38 practice light recoil, 45 full bore defense. Keeps the cals about spaced our just right.
.22 (you can stash thousands of rounds in a small area or on your person and it is dirt cheap) & 9mm. I know I picked 2, I would double up 9mm; I personally don't see a need for a 3rd.
22lr for light targets. It's cheap to take out small rodents.
9mm cause it's a cheap pistol round to stash and replace.
45ACP cause it gives authority to the 1911.
