Texas does not make money on the CHL program. The FBI gets $25 for the FP check, there is an entire bureau dedicated solely to CHL (salaries, benefits, infrastructure, etc), a DPS employee physically goes into each county of residence and work of applicants to conduct the background check, the actual manufacture of the license is contracted out.

    I have done the research.
    Good ta know, thanks!

Given all of that, I'm actually surprised it is priced as it is. Yeah I know "constitutional" rights and all of that but people have no problem paying $500 or more for a carry gun, $100 for a holster, $100 for a belt, and whatever it costs for as many rounds as they deem necessary to qualify their carry gun. But, holy shit, don't ask for the price of a CHL.

Me, I'm pretty much on a fixed income other than if my investment do well. The cost of the CHL is minuscule as compared to what most gun enthusiasts spend yearly.

It's good if true. Forgive me if I don't believe everything that comes out of his mouth.

Everything TXI posted is a matter of public record. Why do you think they have lowered the costs over the years for various groups?( indigent, vets, active duty military, etc) it was primarily do to the fact that the CHL program is not allowed to make money.

I'm thinking near the end of the year only warnings will be issued. Prosecutors won't want to try to convict anybody after Jan 1 for breaking a law that was made invalid by the new one.

You Are prepossessing there will be a large number of people OCing. I think (opinion) there will be a flush of people OCing early on but that will wane.. A good deal probably from the OCT folks. Then it will settle down. Anecdotal, but it seems most have said they favor concealed vs OC. so there you have it.

    Mexican_Hippie,

CONGRADS on having "commonsense" representatives for your district & having 2 "NON-weasels".

"Our representative" votes the STRAIGHT DIMocRATS "Party line" regardless of what the subject is or anything else (at least he was honest & campaigned on being a "faithful 'progressive' Democratic man") & "Our Senator" did the same on both bills.
(Given the "yellow dog democrat" makeup of our neighborhood, I see little chance of defeating either one.)

    yours, satx

    Hoji,

While I cannot/will not argue with "txinvestigator's figures", IF we had CONSTITUTIONAL CARRY, we wouldn't be spending anything at DPS for "the paperwork shuffle" & the employees that are doing all that paperwork could be doing something important, like catching REAL criminals.
(Having been stationed in "shall issue" States and Constitutional Carry States, I suspect that the vast majority of what DPS is directed to do by the legislature is virtually WORTHLESS to control crime OR deny to firearms to dangerous felons.)

I do NOT blame the good folks at DPS but I have little use for the motley collection of shysters/fools/dunces/loudmouths/wastrals/nitwits that we Texans are "blessed with" in the HoR & the Senate. ====> As I've said elsewhere, I don't believe that we would be any worse off if we DUMPED all the incumbents & seated a random sample of TX DL licensees as legislators.

    just my opinion, satx

So the fees are just for administrative costs and the cost of processing. That's good to know.

Ehhh I dunno how much paper shuffling is going on by the part of DPS that actually fights crime. I believe most of that is RSD (Regulatory Services Division) which covers all sorts of categories.

    peeps; All,

The number of people that are doing CHL (regardless of how many that is OR whether the RSD does other things or NOT) , at least in my very humble opinion, could be doing something MORE worthwhile, like securing the border or arresting REAL criminals IF the DPS wasn't messing around doing paperwork, background investigations, etc. that the legislature insists that they do.

Just think of how much money & MOSTLY wasted time & effort could have been saved since the CHL law was signed into TX law IF our "elected representatives" had passed CONSTITUTIONAL CARRY way back then. OR for that matter if Texas had STRUCK DOWN all the so-called "Reconstruction laws" in the late 1800s.

    just my OPINION, satx
