I prefer to list out me grievances with LEO and how oppressive they are. Then I throw my pocket constitution at them.

My vast knowledge on the legal system always impresses them.

In my experience, cops always are open to learning from the suspects they stop. Last time I was detained for speeding I was able to educate the Officer about a vast array of subjects, including fine cheeses and custom knife making. And of course I gave him a few pointers as to how he could do his job better, and reminded him that since my taxes feed his kids he technically works for me. He was so grateful and impressed with my knowledge that he gave me an FOP sticker for my car and taught me the "secret handshake".

Holy shit! You mean you actually now know the secret handshake! Epic! :green:

My last stop was by the DPS in 1975 or thereabouts. Need to brush up on my new CHL / LEO conversation ability I suppose. That's back when lots of folks had car guns and thought the $1,000 fine was worth the risk. It was always interesting back then when a gun fell out of a ladies purse and no charges filed.

Never heard of "the $1000 fine" for simply having a gun in your car in Texas. Just having a gun in the car is not illegal in Texas(and never has been to my knowledge). I've had a gun of some sort most of the time in my vehicle (for more than 50 yrs.) and because I wasn't breaking some other the law, (speeding, dui, etc.), I never got in trouble for it. :green:

Sorry to bring this up from the dead, but what would you do in a situation where you are pulled over and not carrying? Present the CHL as a courtesy since it will come up when they run your license? Or not present it and if they ask, just say you aren't carrying, so you didn't think it was necessary?

Charlie don't believe me...pistol not rifle is what we are discussing and I believe 6 months jail time was also in the law, at the judge's discretion

someone chime in please ! this ought to be an easy one for an old guy like me to remember

Basically everthing is the "judge's discretion". I didn't say I didn't believe you, and must have missed that we were talking only pistol. In 1975 one can have a pistol, etc. in their car legally if they met the qualifications of "traveling". :green:

It's not a matter of believing you or not. I just think you are incorrect about your assumption of a $1000 fine and/or 6 months in jail.:green:

Why would you not be carrying?
For example, if I'm going to be on a college campus all day, I won't be able to carry. I also haven't found a good lockable gun storage unit that fits my needs for my truck. Instead of leaving my firearm hidden, but unsecured in my vehicle all day, I'd rather leave it back home.
