The proscription though should be about the two activities, imbibing and carrying, NOT a physical location (tavern) and the action of carrying.
Just doing a quick search, looks like there are only 16 states that ban concealed carry of hand guns in bars, Texas is one of them. Here is the article that that number came from.

Problem is, "intoxicated" is not defined under the law and it is NOT the same limits as for DWI. Some CHL/LTC instructors incorrectly state that any consumption of alcohol while carrying is illegal. That is simply not true.
