Went to the show this morning and got a heck of a deal on a Glock 23.

It was crazy busy and they are now charging for parking. The worst part was when i pulled in the guy asked me for parking money, i look at the lot and its packed and i asked him if there is no parking available do i get my $$$ back. He said no, hahaha... WTF? So i cruse the lot for for about 5 minutes with no luck and go back to tell him to give me my $$ back and then he jumps up and down like a chimp saying "Ooo Oooo Ooo! there is one there, go get it" hahaha... what the hell... how weird.

Show was busy, same ol' stuff... no real deal's from anything i saw... im still trying to find a .38 snub nose and i couldn't find anything better priced than Cabela's or Academy.

    oh well, another one down.

They were only using about a third of the parking in front of the bldg, and sending everyone else around to the back. It was a mess.

Yeah.. parking sucked ass. I paid 3 bucks to park in a muddy field and walk like 300 yards to the door. I felt sorry for the ppl with compact cars, you damn neared 4x4 to dive that field. It was packed to the brim inside. A dodgeing baby strollers did not help.

but don't forget what the guy said

"But, but, but.... were spending 1.5 million dollars to expand this place for you guys, so the money is going FOR YOU"

thats what he said.. the funny part is that the convention center is used for many other things, i hope they are all being charged parking and not just getting the funding by the Gun guys.... parking was bad last time but this show was just off the wall.

I would normally go back if im bored and tomorrow would be one of those days, but with parking the way it was... i'll go shooting instead.

Yeah, parking was a nightmare; but I scored a 1915 Nagant M1895 and a 1926 Mosin Tula ex-Dragoon for decent prices so I was happy nonetheless!

Got myself a 3rd Gen Glock 22 that cleaned up real nicely for $450 including Trijicon night sights. Parking was a nightmare, my friend and I ended up parking way back along the street near IHOP and waited like 15 minutes just to get through the door but at least I found something that I was looking for. Never could find the Sig I wanted, though. Oh well! Got a new MOLLE vest, too.

I seem to remember that the promoter made a big deal about "free parking" when the location was moved from the Freeman Coliseum just a couple of months ago.

I'm getting tired going to the show every month and seeing the same high priced stuff that was there last month. I used to feel like I had to go to every show or I might miss something.

I may change my mind in the next 4 weeks, but I think I'm just going to attend the shows at the shriner's place on 1604 from now on.

Years ago gun shows were the way to go and still are if you find other private owners that are realistic about selling/trading. It is my belief that the vendors at SAXET are on some type of hallucinagenic drug. The prices are typically insane....way above what Academy sells for and far above what the rest of the gun stores around Texas sell for.
I DO think it is fun to go look at all the stuff that is on the tables, right up until you see the price tag, and I hit SAXET a couple times a year, but even then I feel like it is the exact same stuff I saw 6 months age. You have to realize that those vendors travel the circuit of gun shows, same guns, same prices, different city every week, every month. I equate it to going into Bass Pro and saying, "wow its the same stuff as the last time I was here"
I can understand going for the comraderie, but if good deals are what you seek, SAXET (vendors, not individuals) would be my last stop.

    Good point TexasCop2.

It is kind of entertaining to see whats there but its getting to become a major pain in the ass to get there. The line's are long, the parking sucks, the prices are just plain STUPID. People bringing the whole family blocking the isle's, bringing strollers, mouth breathers that smell and always have to touch you to see the next gun. I question going to gunshows all the time, then i get bored and think "what is there to do today"... Gunshow...

I understand, I get sucked in from time to time, and then wonder "why did I do this?"

I would have found better deals if I had stayed at the IHOP I parked next to and ate a stack of pancakes instead of going into that show...

Saddest part of it all is that in almost all cases of visiting various tables at the show, there are better prices right arond the corner at The Powderhorn on Marbach... with none of the crowds. When I bought the G22 I picked up at the show I asked the guy if he takes credit cards and he looked at me like I was insane and I was like "Do you seriously think I want to walk around with a thousand bucks in my pocket on Marbach?"

Wow, I did pretty well at the show. I found two great deals and usually end up picking up a firearm at every show. But my interests are for old milsurp C&R rifles and pistols, so I really don't pay attention to the more modern stuff. Still, I find if I am looking for something that there sometimes are deals to be found. It's pretty much the same as online auctions, you have to do some hunting and picking, and have a lot of patience; but occasionally you will hit gold!

But as for the venue problems, it is getting worse not better. Charging people to park is not a solution to the problem, and claiming that it is to build a larger parking lot sounds like bull! The fact that the Church and center are allowed to block off areas is bull as well, as why do they have a claim to any part of the lot?

However, the problems will resolve themselves. After the towing that occurred last month, and the charging for parking and having people park in muddy fields, is just going to stop a lot of people from going to the show! Once attendance starts to decrease, things will change. And isn't there an effort up in the Austin area to get shows going again? If so, that will draw away people who drive down for the SA show.

Still, the SAXET show is still the only one worth going to in San Antonio...TGS only has the overpriced, under-valued show in Live Oak that is only worth the bother to folks who don't feel like driving to the other side of town for the big show. The monthly SAXET show may have its problems, but it is still pretty much "the only show in town."

    Cheers! M2

If the Church was there first and has an agreement, then that is why they get reserved space.
I'm glad you found good deals...i'm sure they are there is you dig for awhile, but the perception that gun shows are THE place to get goods deals is now a misconception.
If SAXET is the "only show in town" I will continue to buy from individuals and wholesalers (and Academy) until they get their $hit together...
I dont feel compelled to go to a poor or mediocre gun show just because thats all we have.
    I guess I am jaded...
