Does anyone here fly any Twisted Hobbys EPP planes? Here's their latest offering... very pricey for what it is (gotta buy the plane and the power conbo) but the TH planes seem to fly like crazy.

That's cool and all, but I bet it's a bitch to fly. Probably can't handle being outside unless it's eerily still, too.

You never know Dan. These things are evolving by the day. They seem proud of it enough to take pre-order. For a post product release price of $95, it better not be a POS.

Yeah, I'm tracking now. You couldn't fly it outside in any kinda wind. I bet birds would dive bomb the hell out of it too. I could see mocking birds knocking it out the air...breaking $95 bucks.

Your right Dan. I'm out. It's cool but nah....

Should be getting a plane soon. Still deciding on what to get since I am only familiar with quadcopters. Was looking at the Champ S+ RTF. My transmitter isn't a Spektrum and uses AFHDS so I will need a RTF to get started. I guess our little RC thing never took off after Glockster went away hmm?

Looks pretty cool, like a slight upgrade to the Sport Cub S.

I'd only be concerned with wind. It's hard to tell if it had GPS or if the position hold just put it in a circling pattern that could be blown off by the wind.

Might look at the Sportsman. A little larger and would probably open up the flying conditions quite a bit.

The Sportsman weighs around 30oz, the Champs S+ I think comes in around 4 or 5oz. The heavier planes will typically not get thrown around near as easily in the wind give similar aerodynamics.

I know my daughters Sport Cub S can't be flown in anything over about a 3mph wind. About the same size and weight as the champ S+, maybe a little lighter.

Hmm...its a mixed bag here in Salado with winds since we do have some fairly high hills northwest. I may just go with a heavier plane then to avoid any possible issues. I'm used to quads where I can fly in anything under 5 mph for the little ones and my big one can handle much more.

Quads tend to have much more power in reserve and much less surface area to catch the wind for their weight which makes a big difference.

Planes tend to not need as much power for flight so usually don't have as much in reserve, especially on trainers.

The design of trainers also makes them more susceptible to winds.

One positive to a little 4oz plane, they tend to not hit the ground very hard in a crash.
