And then what.
You get a knock at your door...
May I help you officer?
A gun used in a crime has been traced to you...
Sorry officer, I sold that gun a while back
You didn't rob a liquor store last week? and leave the gun behind
No Sir...
Well ok then.
I will sign those all day long. I won't let them copy my DL info though. All a BOS needs to hold up in court is the item, price, date, and signature. And that's all I will give them.
Feelings about the situation aside, does anyone know if the fact that you are the last documented owner of a firearm committed in a crime counts as "probably cause" even if you do tell them you sold said firearm but have no documented proof of the sale?
I've signed 2 - both times I was buying a service weapon from a cop. Each of us wound up with a copy. His to show he'd sold it. Mine to prove I hadn't stolen it.
All that paranoia must be a heavy burden for some around here to carry. It's a receipt folks, nothing more nothing less.

There's an easy solution to this. Just never sell a firearm.

Yes the same way a lot here think cops would knock on their door or get swatted, because they sold a firearm "Privately" without any paperwork or registration or receipt.
What is does do is give you documentation for your own personal records, the same as with ANY receipt. Nothing more, nothing less.
Yeah, it's just a private sale. Quit making such a big deal out of it and asking for a BoS.

That's only a 50% solution at best...you left out buying used firearms, which is what most of this threas is about.
There's an easy solution there as well. Just don't buy from people who want a BOS.
True, but that's not what most people requiring a BOS are thinking.
