I'll add to the "not driving them" is the worst thing. We've always had a truck for a "third/spare" vehicle. I try to drive it once a week for just this reason.

Learned the hard way on a trailer, let it sit for 9 months, then hauled the same tractor I always used it for - five flats. It was a real bad day...

Good deal. I have been a big DT fan for years and this is why.
I used to be a DT fan, but last time I went to them they wanted to charge me $100 each to mount and balance 4 tires. Went down the road to NTB and they charged me $28 each. Now I'm an NTB fan. Screw DT...

It happens. DT dropped the ball on my company truck but I let it slide. It didn't cost me any cash though, just some time.

You took your own steak and potato to a steakhouse and asked them to cook it for you, then you say "screw them" because you don't like the price? That's hilarious.

There is a pony under this blanket somewhere....$100 EACH to mount and balance is crazy, there had to be more to the story to justify that money. I have been a customer for at least 15 years and with 4 cars, 3 of them 4 wheel drive I was a regular customer buying 37x17 off road tires. about every 6 mo at well over $200 each.

I will tell you that $28 each is no bargin, I only pay $100 for my F 350 dually for a rotate and balance.

    My DT tire story...

We have been buying from DT for about 20 years. My wife had an Acura, and we needed tires once. We had it dealer (Mac Churchill) serviced and noticed they had a great deal on a set of tires, so we bought 4.

We moved to S Texas from Ft worth. One tire developed a slow leak. I took it to DT to get checked, and learned Mac Churchill installed a tire with a twisted bead. Discount Tire refused to put it back on the car, and I figured I was in for high pressure to buy tires. Instead they GAVE me a used tire to replace the bad one so I would not have to drive on the donut spare. They told me that my dealer should never have placed the tire on the car and the dealer should replace it.

Mac Churchill wanted me to drive the tire to them to establish it was bad. Since I needed tires I went back to DT. The same guy was there who gave me the used tire. He remembered me, went in the back room and came out to tell me that they were going to warranty the tire for me. I received a tire from DT free. Not a cheap tire, either. The car used 235/45-17 Z rated.

Discount Tire did me good and I know from where I will buy my next set.

Years ago we had a VW Passat that had a sidewall bulge on one of the tires. I couldn't find a replacement anywhere, so a buddy suggested I try Discount Tire. When I called and told the guy what I needed, he asked if it was a Passat. I asked how he knew, he said it was pretty unique to that car. I was impressed by that. Then he apologized because he couldn't get one until the following day. I was even more impressed by that. We pretty much became lifelong customers after that, and I am still impressed by their service every time I go there!

I would have bought the tires from them as I have other sets, but they didn't have the ones I wanted and couldn't order them. Mounting and balancing is part of what a tire shop does... They don't "just" sell tires. It is hilarious because now other places will get my business over something they could have easily taken care of. Gun shops that charge $75 for a transfer also don't get my business.

I spoke to the manager to ask why and he said, "Well we have to take the old ones off, put the new ones on, and then balance them." ...and???? This is definitely not the first time I've had tires swapped around. I really have no idea what their malfunction was other than maybe they were just upset I didn't buy from them. Too bad, because I have actually bought several sets from them in the past.

I know $28 each isn't a bargain, but unfortunately my favorite tire shop in the area closed. I think the old man that had worked there for 50 something years died :(

    $100 each!?
yep... Maybe the manager was an ex CTD employee?

I read that they drug the wounded guy across the street before becoming suspicious of his vest.

If he was still alive I would be skeptical of him shooting himself. But he may have been dead already. Story wasn't specific.

I can say the .40 drops A LOT at 100 yards. If the guy didn't practice at that range, he probably got lucky.

Should be incredibly easy to tell if the shot came from that distance, but I doubt we will ever know for sure.

I had a set of michilins on my 1 ton for near 10 years, and 75000 miles. Had little tread on them, and gave them to a man for trailer tires. That was 3 years ago. I wouldent be suprided if they are still going today.

Great story. But, what part of town do you buy your tires in?

And, just to resurrect this thread, I just put a set of B.F. Goodrich AT KO2 tires on my Jeep. Already it's amazingly quiet over the noisy Goodyear Wranglers they're replacing, and I get a much smoother ride. I suspect my mileage will go up, but probably not enough to cover the $1200 the five tires set me back!

    Cheers! M2

I have a set of AT KO2's on my F350 and as typical with every Goodyear tire I've owned, the tread life is terrible! I have less than 30k on them and I'll be surprised if I get 40k. The wear on the K02s is no better than on the original KOs I had a few years back. I'm inclined to go back to Goodyears. Both my trucks are diesel, so tread noise isn't a big issue.
